श्लोक
वर्णानामर्थसंघानां रसानां छन्दसामपि।
मङ्गलानां च कर्त्तारौ वन्दे वाणीविनायकौ।।1।।
भवानीशङ्करौ वन्दे श्रद्धाविश्वासरूपिणौ।
याभ्यां विना न पश्यन्ति सिद्धाःस्वान्तःस्थमीश्वरम्।।2।।
वन्दे बोधमयं नित्यं गुरुं शङ्कररूपिणम्।
यमाश्रितो हि वक्रोऽपि चन्द्रः सर्वत्र वन्द्यते।।3।।
सीतारामगुणग्रामपुण्यारण्यविहारिणौ।
वन्दे विशुद्धविज्ञानौ कबीश्वरकपीश्वरौ।।4।।
उद्भवस्थितिसंहारकारिणीं क्लेशहारिणीम्।
सर्वश्रेयस्करीं सीतां नतोऽहं रामवल्लभाम्।।5।।
यन्मायावशवर्तिं विश्वमखिलं ब्रह्मादिदेवासुरा
यत्सत्वादमृषैव भाति सकलं रज्जौ यथाहेर्भ्रमः।
यत्पादप्लवमेकमेव हि भवाम्भोधेस्तितीर्षावतां
वन्देऽहं तमशेषकारणपरं रामाख्यमीशं हरिम्।।6।।
नानापुराणनिगमागमसम्मतं यद्
रामायणे निगदितं क्वचिदन्यतोऽपि।
स्वान्तःसुखाय तुलसी रघुनाथगाथा-
भाषानिबन्धमतिमञ्जुलमातनोति।।7।।

Bal Kand is the first chapter of Ramcharit Manas (Manas) and Tulsi begins with prayer of  Sarasaraswati (Godess of learning), Ganpati, Bhavani & Shanker , Valmiki, Hanuman and Sita & Ram.  Lord Shankar is understood to be representing Vishwas (faith & trust) and Parvati (Bhavani) as Shraddhaa (belief) . Shankar and Parvati stay together as one and are called Ardhnareeshwar (a god who has half female body and half male body), this represents that faith and belief go together i e one can not stay without the other.

Tulsi gives Mother Sita the status of one who is responsible for birth, maintenance and decay of the universe i e a phenomenon with which the Supreme God (i e Lord Ram), who is otherwise considered to be non-active, carries out his plan of  recreation etc .  Sita is Ram’s  beloved and has welfare of all at her heart as would mother do for her children.

Valmiki had been the first poet to create Ramayan (in sanskrit) and Tulsi considered him to be a great poet. Valmiki is also considered to be contemporary of Ram and a Rishi (philosopher and seer).  Hanuman is supposed to be Lord Shiva’s avatar who thought it proper to serve his own master Ram i e the Supreme God in His avatar as Ram in human form.

Tulsi also assures that what he is going to speak and propound would be fully in accordance with the narratives given in the various basic books and authentic literature defining, describing and indicating what and who is the Supreme God or God principle. A lot of philosophy has been covered in just a few lines in the beginning itself, which may seem not more than an ordinary prayer and invocation. This is what makes Tulsi a master in his own right.
