कह सिव जदपि उचित अस नाहीं। नाथ बचन पुनि मेटि न जाहीं।।
सिर धरि आयसु करिअ तुम्हारा। परम धरमु यह नाथ हमारा।।
मातु पिता गुर प्रभु कै बानी। बिनहिं बिचार करिअ सुभ जानी।।
तुम्ह सब भाँति परम हितकारी। अग्या सिर पर नाथ तुम्हारी।।
प्रभु तोषेउ सुनि संकर बचना। भक्ति बिबेक धर्म जुत रचना।।
कह प्रभु हर तुम्हार पन रहेऊ। अब उर राखेहु जो हम कहेऊ।।
अंतरधान भए अस भाषी। संकर सोइ मूरति उर राखी।।
तबहिं सप्तरिषि सिव पहिं आए। बोले प्रभु अति बचन सुहाए।।
दो0-पारबती पहिं जाइ तुम्ह प्रेम परिच्छा लेहु।
गिरिहि प्रेरि पठएहु भवन दूरि करेहु संदेहु।।77।।

Last post (per above verses) left us at the point where Shiv asked Sapt Rishis to confirm as to whether Uma has unfailing love for him and unwavering resolve to marry him. Let us remember Goswami Tulsidas and go journeying further into Ram Katha along with him.

The Sapt Rishis went to where Gauri (another name of Uma) was and found her to be embodiment of Tapasya (the total course of Tapa). They addressed her as Shailkumari (i e daughter of mountain) and inquired what was that made her opt for such difficult Tapa. They asked who was it that she was trying to endear and what was it that she was worshiping for, they wanted a true account of her such difficult practices and the goal in mind.

Uma responded but with great reluctance because they had come uninvited and were not accompanied by her parents and told them that it would seem a laughing matter to them because it is her foolhardiness that she wants to raise a wall on a fluid foundation. She told them that this is nothing but yielding to fixed mind’s absurd desire which would not listen to rational thought (it is representative of what ones belief should be, such belief of a person gets merged into trust or total faith).

She further explains the matter that it is because Muni Narad prompted her to do this; she takes Narad’s words as essential truth (like the word of Guru). She humbly tells them that she knows that her effort is like that of a bird trying to fly without wings. Now revealing the real purpose Uma tells them that her effort is directed by her wish to have Shiv only as her husband and guardian which would seem as irrational to them (here she expresses her knowledge of Shiv who would not be moved by any of his own desires, but is prone to soften up if he finds that there is the will of God behind, Sapt Rishis are aware of this too being thorough themselves and would immediately catch this point).

Since Rishis were there to examine Uma’s commitment they sarcastically said to Uma, ‘really you are born of mountain (that you don’t have flexibility), tell who on earth has had his home established taking advice of Narad ( a vegabond sadhu)’.

रिषिन्ह गौरि देखी तहँ कैसी। मूरतिमंत तपस्या जैसी।।
बोले मुनि सुनु सैलकुमारी। करहु कवन कारन तपु भारी।।
केहि अवराधहु का तुम्ह चहहू। हम सन सत्य मरमु किन कहहू।।
कहत बचत मनु अति सकुचाई। हँसिहहु सुनि हमारि जड़ताई।।
मनु हठ परा न सुनइ सिखावा। चहत बारि पर भीति उठावा।।
नारद कहा सत्य सोइ जाना। बिनु पंखन्ह हम चहहिं उड़ाना।।
देखहु मुनि अबिबेकु हमारा। चाहिअ सदा सिवहि भरतारा।।
