Ramcharit Charcha XCV

II Shree Guruvey Namah II

Jai Shri Ram,

II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II
II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II
II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II

We learned of gods preparing to join Lord Shiv’s marriage procession in the last post which covered upto Doha 91 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Goswami Tulsidas.

Shiv’s attendents are now busy with adornment of Shiv as bridegroom; they have converted the long tangled locks in shape of crown on head of Shiv with the help of a serpent spreading its fangs (Shiv does not believe in dressing up for occasions and is always in his true self, faith also has to be unimproved and total. Any kind of poisoning is not harmful to him,the faith should not dilute because some have poisoned your thinking while you may not despise such people).

Shiv’s ear-rings and bracelets are of small serpents, skin of lion is covering his loins and ashes have been smeared over his body (it signifies that brave acts only can cover the nakedness, weakness will always show and destruction is a process which is essential fornew beginnings).

Young beautiful moon is shining on Shiv’s forehead and holy Ganges is circling the head (the head should always be cool is what is to be understood by this).

Shiv has three eyes i e one extra between the eyebrows (the third eye eables him to look with a different view which reveals to him truely what is intended and what is in store as fate, one should develop this kind of ability to contemplate rather be guided what is apperant) and is keeping a long serpent as sacred thread also (it tells us that rituals are necessary but also contain some damaging aspect which has be taken care of and not feared).

Shiv’s has darkened throat because of poison gulped but restricted from going down (this poison was produced upon churning ocean by gods and demons and was burning all with its fumes, Shiv saved all by taking it but not letting it harming his body and kept it in his throat. All activities of the world generate poison too but none wants that poison whether god or demon, the likes of Shiv take care of it in the interest of society).

Shiv had a wreath made of human skulls round his neck (Shiv announces with this that those who do wrongs will be killed by him but they will remain dear to him, there would be no hatred or animosity).

This kind of awe inspiring is the attire of Shiv and yet Shiv is abode of benevolence and merciful. Shiv has Trishul (three pronged weapon, signifying effectiveness in all three worlds and three time periods known as past, present and future) and holds a Damaroo ( a small drum signifying the need to remain alert and make alert).

Astride a bull, music flowing from different instrument, Shiv now moves accompanied by Vishnu and Brahma as also other gods with their parafernalia of non-worldly kind but this does not seem in conformity with the persona of the bridegroom.

Noting the fact that peculiarity of Shiv should be apperant to an observer of the procession, Lord Vishnu advised the guardians on all sides to walk seperately with their own close group and retinue.

Now we have reached at the end of Doha 92 of Balkand and shall keep journey on into enjoyable Ram Katha.

HariOm,

Krishna Khandelwal

P.S. The serpents can inject poison and kill but Shiv is not going to be affected because he has ingested it already in process of saving others, and snakes also may tie the body and sqeeze for killing i e may work like a rope to tie down which is symbolic of the worldly pleaures, envies and likes that may tie others but not Shiv, Shiv is capable to keep them as ornaments but not be harmed by them.
