In the last post which covered up to Doha 98 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Goswami Tulsidas, we learned about Narad Muni explaining to all and to Maina in particular what was the reality behind Parvati and Shiv and their marriage. It brought relief to the agitated minds of all concerned including Maina.

The parents of Parvati, Maina and Himvan, became light hearted and knowing about the divinity of Parvati, they started bowing down at feet of Parvati (even otherwise the daughters are given respect in the family of their birth, particularly when they are being married off). The occasion called for every one in the city including the young ones and the elderly to be happy and they displayed their happiness.

The festive songs were sung and golden pots of different styles were decorated and put around at the venue. Different types of food preparations that find mention in related literature were being served. “This superb feast is beyond description and why not when it is in the house where Mother Bhavani herself is present (the mother’s place is known by children for the excellent food by all her children)”, this is how Lord Vishnu, Brahmaji and the other gods exclaimed. They were seated in many rows which were being served by expert in cooking and service.

As is the custom, the group of ladies observing the feasting people added color by mildly teasing with sarcasm . The charming ladies railed in sweet strains and poured innuendoes which made gods slow down their food intake and enjoy thoroughly what they listened. It was not possible even for thousand mouths to speak of the overflow of joy and amusement at the site of the special dinner. At the end of the dinner, the guests were facilitated to rinse mouths and then were offered betel-leaves along with fragrant mouth freshening substances. All then went back to their respective resting places.

Once again Sapt Rishis read out the Lagan Patrika (the letter describing the Muhurt i e the auspicious hour for marriage) for the benefit of Himvan who seeing that its time to call the gods sent it to be presented to gods to come for the ceremony (the marriage was to be performed in the middle of the night, this night is called Shivratri even today and is celebrated with full fanfare).

We have now covered Doha 99 of Balkand, the verse in reference in reproduced below:
