We discussed above lines in the last post which covered up to Doha 100 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Goswami Tulsida; Lord Shiv and Maa Parvati have come together and are now busy with performance of Pujas in line with the Vedic directions in connection with the marriage.

The great Munis then undertook the task of formalizing the marriage ceremony as per the customs detailed in scriptures (reciting various related Ved Mantras). Himvan, the lord of the mountains, then held Kush grass in his hand and took his daughter’s hand to be ceremoniously given in hand of Bhav (Shiv) with full knowledge that his daughter is Bhavani (belonging to Bhav, he knew the couple together only will become a single whole as has been the cse through out the ages. Hence he was well aware that he is just an instrument and is not really responsible for this divine union of Shiv with Shakti).

When Maheshwar Shiv accepted hand of Bhavani, all gods became very happy and relieved too as the union of Shiv with Parvati was going to be seeing end of their own troubles. The gods exclaimed, “victory, victory and all victory to Shankar’ , while the Munis recited Ved Mantras, musical instruments played in orchestration and flowers were showered from heavens. The wedding of Hara and Girija created an atmosphere of rejoicing and celebration through out the universes.

The personal attendants, chariots, horses, cows, clothes, jewellery and various other articles of use and the golden pots filled with grains and eatables were given in dowry by Himvan, all that was given was difficult to be described and counted. Afterwards, Himachal, the king of mountains, told with hand folded that Lord Shiv already has all his desires sated ( i e is not left with any old unfulfilled desire and is not weak to have new desires born in mind) and grasped Shiv’s lotus feet (the father-in-law keeps son in-in-law in high esteem and reversely gets to be honored by son-in-law too) and Shiv who is ocean of mercy, reassured his father-in-law in every way. Maina did the same out of love filled heart and pleaded with Shiv, “Lord, Uma is very dear to me like life is to everyone, you may take her as one serving you, taking care of your household, if she proves unworthy in anyway then please forgive her, I ask this assurance from you expecting you to grant me this boon”.

Now we have reached at the end of Doha 101 of Balkand, the relevant verses are given below for you to recite loudly:

जसि बिबाह कै बिधि श्रुति गाई। महामुनिन्ह सो सब करवाई।।
गहि गिरीस कुस कन्या पानी। भवहि समरपीं जानि भवानी।।
