We covered up to Doha 118 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned from Lord Shiv that the delusive state of mind that does not believe in oneness of Ram and the supreme God is like state of dreaming and suffering, Lord Shiv also told the fact of all-knowledgeable God being independent of sense organs for feeling, tasting or doing etc which is as much true in case of Ram although a form is taken and qualification accepted.

Lord Shiv goes on to tell that, “those living beings who die in Kashi before my eyes get rid of any kind of sorrows and this power to free them of sins and sorrows is begotten by me on strength of Ram’s name, who is a superior one among the Raghus and is my master as well is master of all creation whether animate or inanimate, He is witness to all that goes on in minds of people (here Kashi is referred to by Shiv as a geographical location which is supposed to be a city belonging to Him, it means well a state of mind of Jivas when while dying they remain totally established in faith in Him and His teachings and unwaveringly believe in the same way in Ram’s reality. In both ways it becomes natural to be free from sorrows because being in the city of Kashi too one would be naturally mindful and remain conscious of this reality due to effect of atmosphere).

“If Ram Naam is uttered under some compulsion (being in presence of Guru or due to great suffering or pain) then too the sins gathered over many lives get burned (what is recalled under fear or pain makes a deep impression on psyche, when Ram’s name is taken it is natural that one has listened to what Ram stands for and what is He by nature through Kathas and find His name of help in stressful conditions). Those who reverentially remember Him even ordinarily cross ocean of life (continuous state of suffering even if some pleasures are enjoyed which itself become cause of trouble and this fact is realized by the minds that become calm due to name repetition) like one crosses mark made by hoof of a cow. O Bhavani, Ram is that Paramatma (supreme spirit) and for you to say or think that He was under delusion (i e upset due to separation from Sita) is absolutely unwarranted. Harboring such doubts in heart itself is sufficient cause for being bereft of all virtues like dispassion and real knowledge (Lord Shiv reminds Uma that only this confusion had been responsible for her tormented existence in earlier life, this had made her to not pay due attention to Ram Katha being told at the ashram of Rishi Kumbhaj and not pay heed to His own advice later).”

The words of Shiv aimed at breaking the spell of doubt have had the desired effect on Uma who has now shed all sequence of thinking in wrong direction due to misplaced and faulty logic. This has made her place love at feet of Ram and become firm in belief of what Shiv said to her. Now the stark possibility of any unfortunate happening this time too was completely removed.

Girija now grasped the lotus feet of her Master Shiv time and again and then with both of her lotus like hands joined together she began to lovingly pour out words of understanding before Shiv.

We have now covered up to Doha 119 of Balkand.
