कासीं मरत जंतु अवलोकी। जासु नाम बल करउँ बिसोकी।।
सोइ प्रभु मोर चराचर स्वामी। रघुबर सब उर अंतरजामी।।
बिबसहुँ जासु नाम नर कहहीं। जनम अनेक रचित अघ दहहीं।।
सादर सुमिरन जे नर करहीं। भव बारिधि गोपद इव तरहीं।।
राम सो परमातमा भवानी। तहँ भ्रम अति अबिहित तव बानी।।
अस संसय आनत उर माहीं। ग्यान बिराग सकल गुन जाहीं।।
सुनि सिव के भ्रम भंजन बचना। मिटि गै सब कुतरक कै रचना।।
भइ रघुपति पद प्रीति प्रतीती। दारुन असंभावना बीती।।
दो0-पुनि पुनि प्रभु पद कमल गहि जोरि पंकरुह पानि।
बोली गिरिजा बचन बर मनहुँ प्रेम रस सानि।।119।।

We covered up to Doha 119 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas and have learned that Maa Parvati has accepted it without reservations that Ram is none other than supreme reality, the all-powerful God (though He has taken a form), she is now grateful towards Lord Shiv for it and would tell how she feels now.

Parvati tells Lord Shiv, “Your speech has had a cooling effect which relieves heat generated due to living ignorantly in the world like heat of the day in the month of Sharad (this is the month after rainy season and the sun is brighter in the day because of skies becoming clear of dust and smoke etc and heats up the atmosphere in the day) is removed when the moon’s cool light falls in the night.

“You have been graceful and obliging and have removed all kinds of doubts which has enabled me to see the real nature of Ram (beyond just His being the son of a king). The remorseful state of mind does not afflict me any more, I have found my joy all due to blessings granted by just following the direction where your feet have traveled (or so to say that where you have your feet placed and see the reality of Ram).

“Consider me as your servant in service though I still am just a women who is ignorant and stupid enough (Uma does not claim to have become thoroughly knowledgeable and wishes Shiv to give her more wisdom by telling rest of Ram Katha in a manner that would be conveniently followed by an ignorant and stupid person. The message is that an initial understanding of an intricate knowledge should not make one be satisfied, he should remain alert that more of it has to come and should be satisfied only when the teacher says that all or the required knowledge has been passed on and teacher has himself got satisfied about this fact).

“I want to know all of that I asked you in the beginning if you are so pleased kindly enlighten me about it. Ram is indestructible Brahman who is permanently conscious (wholly aware of all things and matters) yet holds nothing for He requires nothing whatsoever and is present in every heart (as spec of consciousness supreme) and this much I have gathered but why would He want to descend in form of a human body on earth is the part that still evades my understanding hence need be addressed with required effort by you.”

This talk of Uma, delivered in most benign and pleasant way reflecting full acceptance of and love for Ramkatha, got full approval of Shiv. The naturally knowledgeable and wise (who had Himself first conceived of Ramkatha and discovered its importance without an outside source hence He is naturally wise and knows all) Lord Shankar who had been annihilator of Kama (who demonstrated that Kama i e desires can’t have any impact on His mind or remain alive in any form before Him), became amused and extolled Uma in many ways and started speaking again.

This covered up to Doha 120-1 of Balkand. This marks fourth rest for those who intend to read Ramcharit Manas in a full month and also marks first rest for those who intend to read it in nine days (Ramayan is read by many in 30 days and by many in special period of nine days ending with Ram Navami, the ninth day of Chaitra month’s bright moon period i e the day when Ram was born in Treta Yug, the second after the first called Sat Yug of the all four).

ससि कर सम सुनि गिरा तुम्हारी। मिटा मोह सरदातप भारी।।
तुम्ह कृपाल सबु संसउ हरेऊ। राम स्वरुप जानि मोहि परेऊ।।
नाथ कृपाँ अब गयउ बिषादा। सुखी भयउँ प्रभु चरन प्रसादा।।
अब मोहि आपनि किंकरि जानी। जदपि सहज जड नारि अयानी।।
प्रथम जो मैं पूछा सोइ कहहू। जौं मो पर प्रसन्न प्रभु अहहू।।
राम ब्रह्म चिनमय अबिनासी। सर्ब रहित सब उर पुर बासी।।
नाथ धरेउ नरतनु केहि हेतू। मोहि समुझाइ कहहु बृषकेतू।।
उमा बचन सुनि परम बिनीता। रामकथा पर प्रीति पुनीता।।
दो0-हिँयँ हरषे कामारि तब संकर सहज सुजान
बहु बिधि उमहि प्रसंसि पुनि बोले कृपानिधान।।120(क)।।

Lord Shiv tells Uma further, ” O’ Bhavani, now you would listen from me the Ramcharit Manas (He calls it so because it is the whole story of Ram and His various Leelas called as Charit which remain firmly embedded in His own psyche i e Manas) which is pure and is not murky at all. This story was told in all detail to the first among birds called Garud (who remains in service of Lord Vishnu) by crow called Bhushundi (in fact a sage in form of a crow, it has a long story behind and we would learn it later).

“How this elaborate and rich in substance dialogue took place will be told by me later on, its time now to listen to most charming and sanctifying descent of Ram as avatar.

” The virtues of Hari (Ram) and His names are many, His Kathas are many too and have vast meaning and substance and His forms are also many and extensive in dimensions. It would be my endeavor to tell all about these as per my capacity of intellect while you have to be listening it with complete devotion and respect.”

( Lord Shiv is the one who initially conceived of Ram Katha and discover its various dimensions which found currency as an important folk lore among masses but became a continuous subject of discussion among the most knowledgeable and realize spiritual masters of all times who keep seeing many more virtues conveyed through it while discussing and listening from each other. Shiv Himself likes to listen Ram Katha from great sages when it is opportune and silently reflects on it when ever free from other kind of engagements. On this account He has not claimed the authorship of it and is giving it to Uma as a dialogue which took place between Bhushundi and Garud. There is no concept of copy-right in relation to spiritual literature, ii is duty of all to give to as many as possible and without imposing any obligation of any kind.)

After Doha 120-1, we have now covered up to Dohas 120-2,3 & 4.

सो0-सुनु सुभ कथा भवानि रामचरितमानस बिमल।
कहा भुसुंडि बखानि सुना बिहग नायक गरुड।।120(ख)।।
सो संबाद उदार जेहि बिधि भा आगें कहब।

हरि गुन नाम अपार कथा रूप अगनित अमित।
मैं निज मति अनुसार कहउँ उमा सादर सुनहु।।120(घ।।
