We covered up to Doha 129 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that a beautiful city has been constructed on way that Narad is taking to go back after he has told about his achievement at not being affected by Kaamdeva and nor getting angry at him (Narad wanted to convey to Lord Hari that he has won over Kaam (afflictions of desires, a perversion) and Krodha (affliction of anger, a perversion) which he in fact did but he is still carrying the ego centric perversion i e false pride. We will see later how this itself converts back in to Kaam and krodha (desires and anger), unless all kinds of Vikar (mental disorders) have been pushed out of psyche some that are not present come back too).

In that city lived beautiful people as if Kaamdev had come as men there and his wife Rati as ladies. The city was ruled by a king called Sheelnidhi who owned innumerable elephants and horses and had all wings of army. The kings grandeur and enjoyment of luxuries of life equaled that of hundred kings of gods together; besides the king was repository of grace, influence, power and statecraft. Vishmohini (this means ‘loved by whole world’ as a word) was kings daughter and she could even enrapture Godess lakshmi by her beauty; she was none other than Lord Hari’s Maya, an abode of all Gunas (virtues, but Gunas are also Satvic,Rajasik and Tamasik which under Mayic disposition are responsible for peoples habits, attitudes and fluctuating wisdom quotient). Since Maya is powered by Lord Hari Himself, who can describe the beauty of her.

A Swayamvar (a gathering invited to enable a princess select a husband of her own choice) was going to be held for the daughter of the king and hence many kings came there as suitors. Muni Narad came in the city in a sporting mood (he was influenced by the city itself) and inquired of the citizenry as too what event was going to take place there. When he learned all about it, Narad reached the palace of king and he was duly honored by king and was offered seat. Muni Narad was then asked to meet the daughter by the king and king also asked Narad to tell what were the possibilities in her life, good and bad, by giving due thought (Narad Muni is renowned for fortune telling and study signs appearing in body to judge talents and luck).

We have now covered Doha 130 of Balkand.
