We covered up to Doha 162 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that the ex-king is telling him things that will influence Pratapbhanu, after he has seen that Pratapbhanu is now under some kind of spell and fully trusts him, even is ready to believe his word that he is ageless.

The ex-king carries on and says, “you should not have an iota of doubt in your mind, O Son, there is nothing that can not be availed on the strength of Tapa. Its on strength of Tapa that Brahma creates, Vishnu provides and Shambhu destroys, in this way nothing is unachievable in the world through practice of Tapa.”

King Pratapbhanu, listening thus, became enamored and the ex-king began relating a few more old parables. Ex-king then discussed the principles of Karma and Dharma, broached topics from history; gave low down on virtues of discretion and dispassion. Stoking imagination, he narrated at length the legend of creation, maintenance and dissolution (of universe). The king listened to all this and came under his influence totally, so much so that he started telling who he really was (which so far he had kept untold).

The ex-king then told the King, “I know already who you are and I am pleased that you showed smartness by not telling it earlier; it is well established conduct that the kings and rulers do not disclose their name everywhere (when not in company of his own people and is without protection). I have now developed more affection for you considering your sagacity and finesse.”

We have now covered up to Doha 163 of Balkand.
