We covered up to Doha 177 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsida and learned that Brahmaji has given desired boon to Ravan and a boon to Kumbhakaran too and lastly Brahmaji has come to Vibhishan to grant him too a boon who has asked for just Bhakti of Lord Vishnu.

Giving boons to the three brothers Brahmaji went away and the three brothers came back to their homes rejoicing. The demon Maya had a daughter called Mandodari, who was a very pretty and beautiful woman. The demon Maya gave her daughter to Ravan in marriage as he knew that Ravan would one day be lord of the demons (i e their leader and king).Getting a very praise-worthy wife, Ravan became very happy and later arranged and married his two brothers too.

There was a mountain of three peaks called Trikoot, it was in the middle of ocean. Nature had made it not easily accessible, the demon Maya landscaped it beautifully and constructed many palaces of gold. It exceeded in every way the Bhagavati (a city, meaning a city of pleasures) of serpents and the Amaravati (the city of gods i e paradise) of Indra (the lord of gods). This world famous place came to be called as Lanka.

The deep ocean surrounded Lanka on all sides, the bejeweled great buildings made of gold were very thoroughly constructed. It has been laid down so by Lord Hari himself that in every cycle of creation the great among demons (those who have orientation for sense pleasures and inclination to work hard for it) who are strong, eminent and brave will live in such places along with their helpers.

(What is to be understood here is that its a natural order that when people who are inclined to work hard for accomplishment of their desires and can be co-operative together may amass wealth, create comfortable living quarters and conditions, may keep themselves safe etc. This has God’s section but when this remains sole purpose and for this when those who are taken as people other then of own clan, community or group and are considered to be putting obstacles or as competing consumers or as objects to be exploited, the excesses are done due to pressure of desires. Here the God has to interfere, set order right, which is what we shall learn further in the Katha.)

We have now covered up to Doha 178 of blakand.
