We covered up to Doha 197 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned and that Guru Vashishtth has thoughtfully named the four sons of King Dasharath. Eldest son has been named as Ram, the one who gives pleasure to whole world, the second son has been named as Bharat, one who provides and feeds the world, third son is Laxman, one with good signs and virtues and is avatar of Shesha and fourth son is Shatrughna, just remembrance of whom can finish the enemies (the real enemies of humans are desire, anger, greed and possessiveness and such other bad traits).

Guru gave names to the sons of Dashrath, duly weighing them in heart (as to which one of many names will be best suited; names should be meaningful, easy on tongue, not very long and reflect the personality; the personality and traits are plainly seen by astrologers by drawing birth chart). Guru Vashishtth then told Dashrath, “O’ King, your four sons are none other than the essential elements of Vedas, they represent four Vedas which tell the essence of every thing.

“Of the four sons of Dashrath, Shri Ram, who is the capital of sages (the reward of labor put in by sages is Him), who for the Bhaktas is their all in all, and who for Lord Shiv is the very life, has for the present started taking pleasure by indulging in child like activities.”

Laxman has taken Shri Ram as his benefactor and master right since the childhood days and has placed his love and attention at the feet of Shri Ram. On the other hand Shatrughna has gradually developed devotion and love, like that of a servant towards his master, for half-brother Bharat.

The attractive pairs (Ram & Laxman and Bharat & Shatrughna), each of which one member is dark complexioned and the other is fair, were being gazed upon fondly by the mothers who simultaneously tore blades of grass (to ward off evil).

Though the four brothers had abundance of gracefulness, beauty and virtues in their personalities yet Shri Ram looked more like an ocean of bliss (the Supreme God is known to be the source of all bliss). Shri Ram’s heart remains full of grace for all which reflects out side as the light emanating from moon in the form of His captivating smile.

Mother Kaushalya used to take Shri Ram in lap for a while and then used to place Him in cradle calling Him ‘darling son’, ‘lovely boy’ etc showing her fondness for Him (her behavior is perfect in the sense that she is with God when she takes her child in lap directly but she has other chores to attend to also and at such times she places the God, her son, in cradle but keeps remembering her son, this is the way to live in life that be with Him totally when free but be mindful of Him when engaged).

The all-pervading Brahman, who is beyond Mayic influence, is attributeless, is known as otherwise serious non-playful entity, the same unborn has come in to lap of Kaushalya simply because of her love and devotion towards Him as a Bhakta.

(It is possible to develop any kind of relationship with the Supreme God and He responds likewise, this is what is reflecting in case of Kashalya and Shri Ram; the only condition is that love for Him in that relationship should be unflinching and unwavering.)

We have now covered up to Doha 198 of Balkand.
