We covered up to Doha 217 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that King Janak has thanked Muni for making him meet the two brothers (Shri Ram and Lakshman) who he considered to be providers of blissfulness to the bliss itself. Then he settled Muni and brothers at a comfortable place. It was much before sunset when Ram was joined by Lakshman after the meals and siesta.

The younger brother Lakshman was too desirous of seeing the Janakpur city (as was natural but this also means here that Jeevas have a tendency to take interest in new and attractive things naturally when they come across such things, Lakshman representing Jeeva has such an inclination therefore), but Lakashman did not express it because he feared his elder brother as also was reluctant due to being under charge of Muni (Lakshman is also dispassionate by nature and therefore could control the urge, this what is a real virtue with Jeevas that they don’t go over-board with desires that come up on occasions). Shri Ram knew by instinct what was going on in the mind of Lakshman, the younger brother of Him (Shri Ram is God Himself, the God knows all that goes on in the hearts and minds of Jeevas); Ram’s heart however overflowed due to love for the Bhaktas (the devotee i e Lakshaman) and therefore with due discipline and respect for Muni Ram smilingly spoke but only after obtaining Guru’s( Muni’s) permission,” O Master, Lakshaman wishes to go around in the city but due to your fear and natural reluctance is not opening up. If only you would permit, I will take him around and return back early (lord Ram here plays a part as the God always does for letting the Jeevas have the pleasures of the world but prefers it to be as per the order established by the seniors and teachers and without getting hooked for long i e not be attached).

The great Muni Vishwamitra listened to Ram and said, showing his tender love for Him, “Ram, how is it possible that You wouldn’t strengthen the righteous path, You are the very protector of the bridge of Dharma (i e You always take upon Yourself to establish the Dharma which when followed delivers one from the world of life and death), You are in fact always obliged to you the Bhaktas who immensely love you and therefore reward them with enjoyment and bliss.

“Both of you must go around the city while you are yourselves the very storehouse of all kinds of joys and pleasures (i e the Leelas between the Jeevas/Bhaktas and Lord are always the source of joy and entirely blissful). You have beautiful faces and its a good idea that you are seen by the citizens to get sweet reward for having eyes.”

We have now covered up to Doha 218 of Balkand which also happens to be the 8th pause for a 30 day recital and 2nd pause for the 9 day recital.
