We covered up to Doha 220 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that while the two brothers (Ram and Lakshman) were walking down the streets of Janakpuri, the citizen rushed for having a blissful look at them and be gratified for having eyes. The young ladies of the town peeped out of windows for having a glimpse of them and concluded that both brothers were the most cahrming of all the gods and were beyond comparison.
The young ladies wondered whether there could be any one who has body (i e is able to look through own eyes) will not be spell-bound by the beauty possessed by the brothers (Ram and Lakshman).
One of them lovingly addressed friends saying,”O the grown-up learned ones listen to what I have learned; the two are sons of King Dashrath, they are like a decent pair of young swans (called as swans by the lady to emphasize their blemishlessness and as young because they were young, applied to their divinity it says that they can’t be having faults and the God never ages and is always at His absolutely efficient level whether embodied as human or in formless omnipotent state).
“They were entrusted with the resposibility to protect the Yagnas of Muni Kaushik (Vishwamitra) who killed many demons in the battle field. The one with dark complexion and graceful lotus like eyes is the one who broke the pride of Mareech and Subhuj (the two demons representing alluring falsehood and bodily strength); He is the one born to Kaushalya and is like mine of bliss whose name is Ram and who holds bow and arrow in His hands (suggesting that this God is not without capacity to ward off evils of the world, God may be known to be neutral but here is the embodied form of same God which does not allow people of damaging character thrive and is armed i e ready for it;this quality of God has been revealed to her).
“Behind Ram is the fair complexioned young man in beautiful attire who also holds bow and arrows;his name is Lakshman and he is younger brother of Ram, his mother’s name is Sumitra, take note of it, Friend.
“Discharging their duty in line with Vipras’ concerns, these two brothers have also brought end to curse o Ahalya, wife of Muni Gautam and now they are here to watch the ceremony of ‘Dhanush-Yagna’ (the bow related show of might for marrying off his daughter organized by King Janak, the father of Sita).”
Listening to the informative talk of one of the frieds, all the ladies became emused and delighted.
