We covered up to Doha 225 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Ram Lakshman have been shown around the arena fixed for Dhanush-Yagna and other places by the boys of the town while Ram gave some more tips to Lakshman as elder brother. Almighty Lord i e Ram behaved like and ordinery persons and looked around with amazment and wonder; he feared for being late to return and rushed back after bidding good bye to yound kids. Reaching place of stay the two brothers set near Guru when asked to be seated.

It was now dusk and Muni Vishwamitra indicated to both brothers to perform evening time meditative puja called Sandhyavandan; all of them then did so.

Freed after Sadhyavandan, Muni related many old historical stories and told Kathas (Kathas are stories of great peaple told in a manner that the finer and educative points are grapsed by the listener) which were interesting too and thus an hour or two in to the night passed. Muni then went to sleep and to help him shed tiredness the two brothers Ram and Lakshman masaaged his legs and feet, isn’t it appreciable that the very same Ram and Lakshman, who have their feet worshipped by process of Yoga (unionizing with God i e Ram) and Vairagya (dispassion, Lakshman is considered to be absolutely passionless and unprompted by desires) by Yogis and ascetics, are themselves serving at the feet of Muni Maharaj all due to being won over by the love that Muni has had for them (Muni had successfully attached himself to Lord, he got company of Ram by force of his polished personality enriched with Japa and Tapa that Muni Vashishtth recommended and Dashrath couldn’t refuse his demand. Muni also was now dispassionately pursueing the causes of others in society and therefore deserved return of love by Ram and Lakshman as avatars).

Muni Maharaj time and again told Ram to leave him and have a nightlong rest and only then did Ram go to bed; the younger brother Lakshman (who had resolved ever to remain in service of Ram) then placed feet of Shri Ram on his chest and attemted to carefully relieve Him by massaging (symbolically it means that the principles advocated and adopted by Ram were suitably learned by heart by Lakshman and he never forgot to revise them before going to relax himself);Lakshman enjoyed serving Ram, feeling as if he had got the graspe of the ultimate truth (that is represented by Ram, the God).

Ram then directed and pleaded with Lakshman to go to sleep many times (the God knows that Jeevas need to have rest and therefore he insists on them taking physical rest too and not be overworked in spiritual pursuits) and Lakshman then followed instructions but only letting the lotus feet of Ram remaining placed on his chest (symbolically meaning that the God and His directing priciples were to remain ebedded in his heart even while in sleep or deep sleep, dreams of lower kind do not disturb sleep of such people).

When the night passed out, the cocks made sounds indicating dawn and Laksham was first to get up (observing discipline of rising before the elders);Ram, the source of auspicious knowledge, also rose up before Guru Vishwamitra (Ram as avatar is ever ready to establish Dharma on earth and therefore is careful to observe what is right in every way though as Supreme God He is not obliged).

We have now covered up to Doha 226 of Balkand.
