Ramcharit Charcha CCXXXVIII

II Shree Guruvey Namah II

Jai Shri Ram,

II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II
II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II
II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II

We covered up to Doha 246 of Balkand in Ramcharit manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that the nobler kings, having recognized Ram and Sita’s divine status advised the arrogant and unwise kings to shed wrong ideas and appreciate the unworldly beauty and charm of Ram and Sita who are really the father and the mother of the universes. They thanked their good fortune of having them in front of their eyes which was the sweetest rewards of being born for them. The gods appreciated this and showered flowers from sky. Later King Janak asked for Sita to be brought there and accompanying her companions Sita arrived there.

Jadambika Sita’s charm was beyond description as she possessed concealed wealth of beauty and virtues (which could not be noticed all at once). All attempts at comparisons would have fallen short of standard in her case because they had all been fit only for being used when just limbs of ordinery women of the world were in reference hence to use those similies would have only earned a bad name for the poet. Any suggestion to show Sita equalling a woman of the world, however beautiful would also not have worked because such a highly attractive lady could never be found on earth.

Coming to the goddesses, if Sharda (goddess of speech) is picked for coparison, her being too talkative would fail her, Pravati would not be found right because she is called Ardhangini i e one who is only half-bodied (the other half is of Lord Shiv to complete their personality, they are never ever seperated from each other and have merged themselves in to each other), in case of Rati (consort of Kaamdev) her husband happens to be without a form (he was first eleminated by Shiv and later was allowed to live but without a form when he had tried to disturb Lord Shiv while he was in Samadhi, a deep contemplative posture), failing her too and lastly Rama (Lakshmi, whose master is Lord Vishnu) has Vish (poison) and Varuni (intoxicating liquor) as her dear brothers (these substances were born when she had herself appeared upon churning of ocean) would also not be right choice to compare with Vaidehi Sita.

However, if an ocean filled with pure love is churned with a string made of splender/charm tied around a hillock of exotic feelings which is placed on back of a tortoise having immense beauty and this yields a form like a Lakshmi who is the basis of all the beauty, then and then only someone like Sita can be perceived but still with some reservation.

(The idea here is to explain that Sita is the casue of all that is beautiful in this world being mother of all creation which though may seem ugly at times to us because of our own lack of full understanding but is actually beautiful and rewarding. When this is well understood, the conflict goes away and one becomes a firm devotee at the feet of Sita who is the creative power of none other than the God-Supreme who has appeared as avatar taking human form as Ram.)

We have now covered up to Doha 247 of Balkand.
