Jai Shri Ram,

II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II
II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II
II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II

We covered up to Doha 253 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that
Janak let his sentiment out at not seeing any one succeed to even lift or move the bow of Shiv, leave apart stringing or breaking it. He expressed his disappointment saying that it seems that Sita will remain unmarried and the world is without any brave persons. He lamented saying that he would not have taken the vow as he did if this had been known earlier to him. Listening to Janak’s outpourings, all became sad but Lakshman became angry and wanted to speak something straightaway but being under discipline of Shri Ram, his elder brother, he first bowed down at His lotus feet and began to speak in authoritative and high-piched voice.

Lakshman said,” it is never right to speak in a gathering where there is a descendent of Raghu present, in the manner that Janak has spoken; he has known that the ever shining jewel (Mani) in the family of Raghus is very much present here.”

Lakshman then turned towards Ram and said,” O the one like sun for the lotus-like (i e blemish free) sun-dynasty to make it bloom, I wish to speak something not out of sense of pride and arrogance but as reflection of my inner nature but after Your due permission, please listen therefore. I can lift the universe like a ball (Lakshman is avatar of Sheshnaag who does indeed balance universes on his many fangs right after their creation). I can break it in to pieces like a vassel of raw-mud or glass. I can uproot the Meru Mountain and like a radish, all due to Your influence, power and glory, what then is worth of the wretched old bow. Considering this if You would permit me I will do all this playfully for You to watch with interest. I would string the bow handling it like a stalk of lotus and run for a thousand miles with it in my hand(though the weight of bow is too much for anyone else present here to handle) .

“O Master, with power of Your influence and glory, I would break it like a stalk of mushroom. I promise to not ever touch a bow or a quiver in future if all this is not accomplished by me, I swear by Your feet, O Lord.”

(Lakshman could not keep qiet after listening to what Janak said because a Bhakta can not appreciate any one talking without recognizing the absolute power of Almighty God. Janak had known Ram to be as an avatar of Almighty God and was aware that He was present in the midst of people there but still made a statement ignoring this fact and thus it seemed not right to him. Janak, a Gyani, used to remain in contmplation of attribute-less and form-less God and though he had become aware that Ram is none other than God in human form but by practice he had not yet been perfect in that understanding. A true devotee of Sagun Brahma i e God with form and attributes, is never tense and anxious, he can engage all his senses and mind in the seeing the form and thinking of virtues instantly and avoid the moments of worry turning in to anger etc.)

We have now covered up to Doha 253 of balkand.
