Ramcharit Charcha CCXLVII

II Shree Guruvey Namah II

Jai Shri Ram,

II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II
II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II
II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II

We covered up to Doha 254 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Ram stopped Lakshman from further speaking about own and Ram’s real nature in high-sounding words and Muni Vishwamitra while appreciated what Lakshman told also asked Ram to get up and break the bow to comfort Janak immediately. Ram then rose up and bowed down at Guru’s feet and made the saints and kind hearted other people’s eyes dance with pleasure, expectation and relief.

When Ram rose up (like a morning sun) the kings felt their own hope vanishing like night when its dawn, their chatter died down like the string of stars becomes faded (in front of rising sun). Those of the kings who were very arrogant began to withdraw within themselves like Kumud flower closes (upon day break) and those of the kings who were falsely posing (i e without any inner strength) disappeared from scene like owls go hiding in the daytime. Munis and gods felt pleased and became active like birds shedding their feelings of gloom and began showering flowers by way of their offerings to pay homage.

Ram on the other hand after paying respects at feet of Guru with affection went to rest of the Munis to take their permission and blessings (because it is never right to ignore elders and learned in any way, it is never liked by a good teacher and Muni Vishwamitra was such a one).

Ram, the master of the universe, then set his foot forward in a manner that is natural to him, it was as graceful as walk of a lovely elephant who is in upbeat mood. When Ram walked all the ladies and gentlemen of Janakpur city became restless bodiy but very happy in their hearts. They invoked manes and gods and recounted their good-deeds for being rewarded at that moment and prayed saying, “O Ganesha (the God who is able to remove obstacles), you are our master, we are ready to trade our Punyas for Ram breaking the bow
of Shiv like a stalk of lotus.”

Sita’s mother became overwhelmed with love (like that of mother for the child) looking at Ram with affection and summoned Sita’s female friends and spoke in words which reflected her setiments and her unease.

We have now covered up to Doha 255 of Balkand.
