Ramcharit Charcha CCXLIX

II Shree Guruvey Namah II

Jai Shri Ram,

II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II
II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II
II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II

We covered up to Doha 256 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that
When Sita’s mother expressed her emotions for Ram and her concern that He is being asked to do something which many great brave people failed to do, one of her wise friend told her that the potential to do bigger things may not be noticeable but remains and the smaller size is no impediment for accomplishments and gave example of Kumbhaj Rishi, orb of sun and Ankush (goad).

Friend of mother of Sita further said,”that Kaamdev (god of love) keeps in hand a bow of flowers only but who does not fall under his influence. O Devi Sunayana, you may not carry doubt about Ram breaking the bow (of Shiv).” Listening to her friend’s words of wisdom Sita’s mother felt reassured and her feeling of dejection went away, rather she now had greater love (for Shri Ram because it seemed to her very much possible that she will be getting Him as her son-in-law).

On the other hand Vaidehi Sita looked at Ram and became anxious and started praying many gods and godesses in her heart (an excess of love for someone makes one unstable at times) and became depressed with fear of unknown. Right at that moment of weakness she remembered Lord Mahesh and Maa Bhavani and prayed them for being pleased, she asked for reward for having served them and wanted to be favored by Shiv by making his bow lighter in weight and size (Shiv and Parvati are the only divine personalities who impart instant relief to unstable and stressful minds, they are personified Vishwas (faith) and Shradhha (belief) and when we rely on them all anxiety goes away providing instant relief in all situations).

Then she propiciated Lord Ganesh (the god who removes obstacles and is son of Shiv and Parvati) and said,” it is for this day that I have served you hence please listen to my repeated requests and you too reduce the weight of bow to a further low extent (when your father has reduced it to as much possible for him).”

Looking back in direction of Ram, time and again and trying to bring various gods to extend their help but with sobered feelings now (as she had now relied on Shiv,Parvati and Ganesh which had provided her the necessary stability in heart). She had her eyes filled with tears of love and had repeated pangs of shiver (due to uncontrollable emotional upsurge).

(It is very normal for unmarried young ladies to be behaving in the manner Sita behaved i e giving in to total concern for just only the one whom they have started loving. We will see later that Sita is becoming totally immersed in thought of getting near Ram by gradually concentration on just one thought. This is how we may have nearness to God, by having a very soft emotional make up of heart and single pointed attention towards Him.)

We have now covered up to Doha 257 of Balkand.

Bhavani Shanakr Ki Jai!
Prabhu Shri Ram Ki Jai!
