Ramcharit Charcha CCLIX

II Shree Guruvey Namah II

Jai Shri Ram,

II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II
II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II
II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II

We covered up to Doha 266 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that the wicked kings could not accept Ram’s breaking the bow and resultingly getting to marry Sita and they started to talk of forcibly taking Sita away from Ram; they were then admonished by the nobler kings, they asked whether it was some freshly gained strength that they were boasting about like this because only a little while earlier they had failed to even move the bow. They advised the wicked kings to enjoy through their eyes the beauty of Shri Ram fully and be saved from ire of Lakshman.

The noble kings further said to the wicked ones, ” your wishes are like a crow wanting to take away offering to Garud (the king of bids), a rabbit wanting to snatch away what belongs to enemy of elephant i e a lion. You are angry for no reason and can such people ever be safe, can a person disposed against Lord Shiv
ever expect to have riches.

“Is it ever possible for a greedy and covetous person to have good name , is it ever possible for a lustful person to be free from unholy relationships. Your inclination is like that of person who is not inclined to serve the feet of Shri Hari, the Lord Supreme but still wants to be liberated.”

This kind of commotion and exchange between the noble and wicked kings were heard by Sita, She became uneasy and worried and hence Her companions took Her back to the queen, Her mother.

Ram went back to His Guru in a way natural to Him (He did not want to look for appriciation or praise from any body else ) but He kept weighing Sita’s love for Himself within His heart(which He had noticed at the time of His being garlanded by Sita).

Sita together with the other elder ladies of household became anxious about the new development (ladies are weaker in this respect, they are never appreciative of unruly behaviour of people in their presense) and wondered what may be in store now that Vidhata, the creator, wants to enact.

Lakshman also listened to the kings’ conversation and began to glance here and there; though uncomfortable at listening to such talk but not finding himself free to intervene because of being under discipline of Shri Ram (who had only a little while ago stopped him from any unwarranted action solely on his own account) and kept quiet. His body language clearly indicated his anger, his eyes became red, eyebrows uneven and he glanced at kings angrily like a young lion would glance at a group of elephants in upbeat and careless mood ingoring the presense of lion.

We have now covered up to Doha 267 of Balkand.
