II Sri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram II

We covered up to Doha 273 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas and learned that Lakshman has suitably answered Muni Parasuram telling that he has been restrainng from picking up fight with Muni due to his family tradition of keeping Brahmins in high esteem and added that Muni is having a tounge that can sting so why should he carry weapons on his body and wanted to be excused for any uncalled for behavior on his part. This made Muni further enraged and serious.

Muni spoke with heavy accent, “O Kaushik (Vishwamitra), this boy is of poor intelligence, he seems to be perverse, his own end is near and he has invited trouble for his family too. This boy is a black spot on the bright moon like shinig reputation of the Sun-dynasty; he is totally without restraint, is a fool and is unmindful of impending disaster. He may be embraced by death in a minute, I am declaring this to you (because you are his gaurdian here) therefore you should not be holding me responsible for any untoward happening. You may admonish him from indulging in any further foolish action if you want him saved; tell him about my ire, my well known attitude and my strengths.”

(Muni Parasuram must have seen that Lakshman was fearless and seemed strong himself, avoiding direct interaction with him he brought Lakshman’s Guru in picture hoping that situation remains under control. This behavior of Muni was in contradiction of what he had made known so far.)

Lakshman on the other hand fearlessly addressed back Muni Parasuram saying, “O Muni, so long as you are there who else would speak of your famed accomplishments (you would never give him a chance). You have already made many references in self-praise in diverse ways. If you are still not satisfied then you may broach the same topics again, it will not be right for you to suffer in agony by keeping your anger suppressed (while I am ready to listen). You are avowedly following the heroic path, you have staying power and are not easily perturbed hence it does not behove of you to resort to abuses.

“The really brave and valient people do not verbally make known their heroism by words but rather show it by action while the war is on. When an enemy is being
confronted on the batttle field, its not the time to only keep reciting own praise, its done by cowardly people who wish to avoid fighting.”

(Here Lakshman is showing a measure of courage that is innate in Kshatriya race while Muni Parasuram is taking care of many other factors though he is very committed enemy of socially unjustified people. Lakshman hasn’t een found to be on the wrong side of justice so far hence Muni being a Brahmin does not want to go all out. Brahmins though no less self-righteous still want to avoid conflict.)

We have now covered up to Doha 274 of Balkand.
