We covered up to Doha 308 of Balkand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Muni Vishwamitra reached to meet King Dashrath along with Ram and Lakshman. King Dashrath paid his respects to Muni and Muni embraced the king and inquired of the welfare. Ram and Lakshman then bowed down before their father who in turn took them in his embrace with overflowing love; his condition was like a dead man getting back his life. Ram and Lakshman paid respect to Muni Vashishth as well as to the Vipras and the elders. Then the four brothers met each other with utmost affection and pleasure. All the citizens, ministers and the friends were also met with proper regard by Shri Ram, the merciful Lord.

Barat felt reassured up on seeing Ram, they had immeasurable love for Him and did not not know how to express it but how they did it is beyond mention. The four sons near the king appeared very admirable; they could well be taken to be incarnated forms of the four ends of Jeeva, worthy of achievement i e Dharm (righteousness), Arth (the means), Kaam (the desires) and Moksha (the liberation). Looking at Dashrath with his four sons, the citizens of Janakpur were very delighted in particular. The gods began to shower flowers and play music loudly, the dancers of heavens danced and sang. Muni Satanand, the ministers and Vipras from Janak’s side along with the jesters, genealogists and bards welcomed and praised the Barat and the king and after obtaining king’s permission returned back. The Barat had arrived in time keeping the schedule as per the auspicious hour and it was matter of great comfort for the whole Janakpur. The people now felt the transcendent blissfulness and wished for longer days and nights, praying Brahma, the creator.

The common refrain between the people of Janakpur where ever they were together was that while Ram and Sita are immensely beautiful and showed ultimate charm, the two king also had such stock of good deeds behind them that no body else could exceed.

(Dashrath is a one who has control over the ten Indriyas (five sense organs and five organ of actions) of human body and therefore is naturally worthy of achieving the four goals of life as described above. For those who are not able to do so nothing is achievable. King Dashrath has had this ability to control senses and therefore has capacity of achieving the all four goals, his sons represent the same.)

They discussed that while Janak’s good deeds gave him daughter like Sita and the good deeds of Dashrath let him have son like Ram, if not that their good deeds have embodied themselves in to form of Sita and Ram what else could it be. The two kings worshiped the Lord Shiv like no other, the outcome of their effort and devotion has never been obtained by any other therefore no body like them has ever been born on earth in past and never would be. They said that they have a similar fortune as some body doing a lot of good deeds would have because they have become residents of Janakpur upon taking birth, it is here that they have seen both Sita’s and Ram’s beauty and aura of charm; that they are definitely extraordinarily fortunate. They conversed that they would be seeing Ram’s marriage taking place before them and would have received sumptuous reward for having eyes. The ladies with voice like that of a cuckoo exchanged words to the effect that they they have another good fall out for which Brahma has been particularly merciful i e the two brothers (Ram and Lakshman) would come here a guests often to please their eyes.

They said that Janak would call Sita to visit her mother’s place often out of his love for her and when it will be time for Sita to go back the two brothers, who are as beautiful as millions of Kaamdevs (cupids), will be called to take her along with them.

(The people in Janakpur realize that as Sita (i e Bhakti) has been born in Janakpur it will cause Ram (the God Supreme) to come there when ever Sita will be remembered, those who happen to have Bhakti get the benefit of having God before their eyes whenever they have Bhakti Bhaav (the emotion of love for lord) in their hearts.)

The people in Janakpur further discussed, “they (Ram and Lakshman) will be welcomed in may ways, who would not love such in-laws as Janak and Sunayana are (they are always very keen hosts) and when they come naturally the citizens of Janakpur would have pleasure of seeing Ram and Lakshman in full measure. There is another pair like Ram and Lakshman who have come along with King Dashrath, they too are of fair and dark complexion and every limb of their’s too reflects beauty, this is what everyone talks about who have seen them.

“Some one told that he had just had a good look at them and it seemed to him that they were specially created by Brahma with his own hands. Of the two Bharat is exact copy of Ram and difference is unnoticeable to all and the other i e Shatrughan is true copy of Lakshman. They have beautiful limbs right from top to toe. They are so pleasing to heart that it can’t be described as no one like them seems to exist in the three worlds.”

Mahatma Tulsidas says, “they can’t be likened with any body as there is no comparison available, this is what the poets and the wise declare. In strength, humbleness, learning, good mannerism and graceful beauty they are oceanic in proportion and hence only they are like themselves i e are unique.”

With this kind of character of the four brothers in their mind, the citizens of Janakpur have spread their shoulder garment before Brahma asking to drop the boon grating the marriage of all the four with girls from their own city. They later began to continuously sing the nuptial songs praying for auspicious and good tidings (they already were assured of their wish getting fulfilled).

The women of Janakpur had tears in their eyes and their bodies thrilled with emotion of love and convinced each other that since the two kings were themselves the vast ocean of good deeds so naturally the Brahma would suitably reward them in this way.
