First of all five portions of food was kept aside by people ready to eat to discharge their obligation towards Devtas (gods), Pitras (ancestors), Rishis (the thinkers and philosophers), Manushyas (fellow human beings) and Bhutas (all types of beings) and then they began taking food themselves. The people from Janak’s side started joking and teasing them through pleasing songs with affection and all enjoyed it while eating. A variety of preparations were being served which tasted heavenly and the service was being carried out by the cooks who knew the art of cooking, some of the items were never before tasted by the guests and they didn’t even know what these items were referred as.

All the four types foods i e Charvya (which are chewed), Choshya (which are sucked), Lehya (which are licked) and Peya (which are drunk) were served but each category of food had some extra-ordinary varieties. All the six types flavors formed part of the meals consisting of mouth watering recipes. Each one of the guests were addressed by taking their names and were teased while they enjoyed their food. It was time for raillery (in terms of popular practice) and therefore didn’t make anyone uncomfortable; bemused King Dashrath enjoyed it along with his people. When all finished feasting they were carefully offered water to rinse mouths and wash hands.

We have now covered up to Doha 329 of Balkand.

Bhavani Shankar Ki Jai!
