We covered up to Doha 27 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that King Dashrath tried to cool down Kaikeyi’s wrath and tried to convey to her that some thing dear to his heart was to happen i e the coronation of Shri Ram was to take place tomorrow, all were upbeat hence she should too get nicely dressed for the occasion. Kaikeyi concealed her immense hurt listening to these words and instead used her womanly charm and demonstrating greater affection said to the king smilingly that he had umpteen times prompted her to ask some thing from him but such an occasion never came; she further said that even the two boons that were given to her might not yield anything for her was what she feared.

King Dashrath still not fully appreciating what the situation was like told Kaikeyi, “I now get what is at the bottom of it all, you get some sadistic pleasure by being angry with me; you kept the boon granted to you in reserve and I forget to ask you to redeem them in line with my forgetful nature. You must not put me to blame imagining things wrongly, you may ask not two but four boons if you so like. In the family of Raghus the long establish practice is to lay down life rather than not honor the given word, being untruthful is worse than a whole lot of sins put together. The millions of small grains can’t equal a mountain such is the relationship between the various other sins and going back on words. The truth is the very root of all the righteousness and of pious actions which in fact form the only right course for one to adopt, this has been amply recommended in the Vedas, the Puranas and is also the teaching of father of all, King Manu.

“On top of it I have avowed in the name of Ram to keep my promises and do what you want, Ram is himself the best example covering the entire spectrum of beings representing love and good deeds.”

Getting these ultimate commitments from the side of the king, Kaikeyi, the ill-advised queen, smilingly readied herself to unfold the hawkish plan of hers when the prey was there right in the view to be attacked with finesse. If the king’s heartfelt humble desire to put Ram in charge of the kingdom be a lovable forest and the pleasures of the masses be the bird chirping in it, the huntress Kaikeyi had planned to release the hawk like volley of her words and destroy the peace of all.

We have now covered up to Doha 28 of Ayodhya Kand.
