We covered up to Doha 69 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas and learned that when Shri Ram finally touched feet of mother Kaushalya and asked for her leave, she became too badly upset finding Shri Ram’s love for herself as too deep; seeing mother unable to speak and very distressed, Shri Ram gave her idea about the spiritual and philosophical aspects of life. The play of emotions at this difficult time can not be described by anyone. Janki also bowed down at feet of mother-in-law and regretted that she was having to leave her while she should have served her but then asked to be excused as it was destiny playing out ruthlessly. Kaushalya once again felt helpless and distressed because Sita was not at fault and rather did not deserve to have such a time. Then Kaushalya gave Sita some good advice and blessings to enjoy unbroken long married life together with her husband Shri Ram.

Lakshman, the younger brother of Shri Ram, extraordinarily dismayed and rattled up on getting the news of Shri Ram leaving home for forest, rushed turning His face in the direction of Shri Ram. Shuddering and with tears in his eyes Lakshman very impatiently grabbed the feet of Shri Ram; he became stunned and speechless and just stood there as if a fish had been thrown out of water. Engrossed in deep thought he wanted to know from the lord of destiny as to what was in store, had the reward of all the noble deeds now exhausted for him and for others, what Shri Ram would expect from him, would he want to leave him here at home or would like him to come along.
Shri Ram noticed His brother Lakshman standing with folded hands before Him, his body language telling that he had lost all interest in home now and also in the comforts of body, breaking connection with world here as effortlessly as breaking a straw; Shri Ram, most ethical, ocean of mercy, civility, affection and joy besides being very straight and of simple disposition, began to say to Lakshman (He had already had the idea that Lakshman qualified in every way to be with Him, as his body language had showed complete disregard for worldly relations and bodily comforts but still wanted to give him reason to stay back), “Dear Brother, you must not become weak because of love for me, you must be happy after assessing in your heart the end result of the sequence of events that are going to take place, which will only be good.”
Shri Ram then gave Lakshman an invaluable advice, “those who by their nature itself are inclined to reverentially follow the advice of mother, father, Guru and master only get the full benefit of being born otherwise the life itself goes waste.”
(Shri Ram here meant to say that parents, Guru and the master* have natural interest in welfare of a person, they have experience and recourse to knowledge hence their advice should not be neglected or faulted. Also in this way only the order can be kept in the world. If during course of life, if the children, the pupils and the servants are observed to be going in the wrong direction only these people can check it without any regard for their own petty interests, all others try to take advantage in such situations. In a difficult situation the involved person can not assess where he stands, these people watching from distance continuously make this assessment and guide accordingly. These people also know about the areas of expertise of their wards and therefore encourage to make use of expertise with confidence and full freedom, they also know the weaknesses and keep them safe by that angle too.)

Shri Ram continued his conversation with Lakshman and said, “Learning this by heart, O Brother, you must get busy in serving at the feet of your parents; you are aware that Bharat and Shatrughan are not at home and the King is now aged besides he is weak due to grief in his heart on account of me. If I take you to forest with me, the whole Avadh region will be without a master and care-taker. Further, our Guru, the father and the mothers, the subjects and the extended families will have a hard time in carrying the burden of grief and responsibilities.
“Stay here therefore and please everyone involved, otherwise O Younger Brother, it will be great undesirable act on our part, almost a fault. The king in whose time the beloved people of the state suffer and remain unhappy, surely he becomes entitled to only stay in hell, now or after life. Giving weight to this point of policy you must stay back.”
These words of Shri Ram had an opposite effect on Lakshman and he became all the more troubled and perturbed; Lakshman became pale like a lotus that has been bitten by forest. He failed to reply being under thought of love for Shri Ram and grabbed Shri Ram’s feet with deep sense of dejection and anguish and some how uttered words, “O Lord, you are the master while I am just a servant of yours, if you decide to disown me than who else can help me in this regard.”
