We covered up to Doha 71 of Ayodhya Knad in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas and learned that Shri Ram gave to Lakshman some good advice and told that it was best for him to serve father and the mothers as other two brothers also were not in Ayodhya then. He warned him that in absence of both of them together Ayodhya will be without a protector and a savior, this may bring untold miseries for all the subjects, friends and relations. He told Lakshman that call of duty at this point was to please and serve all concerned as any king in under whose rule there is disorder and insecurity, it is bound to bring difficulties for that king too as well as it would spoil his after life. Lakshman became very very upset listening to Shri Ram’s words and fell down at His feet saying that who could help when my Lord himself was ready to leave him alone and without help.

Lakshman began to apprise Shri Ram of his own condition saying, “O Goswami, you the one who has mastered senses, you have given me the rightest and beneficial advice but it seems difficult for me to follow because of my own limitations and lack of strength. There is very little number of such great people who can keep patience and hold the pivot of wheel of Dharma, the essential duty and only such people are worthy of being told to tread on path recommended by the holy scriptures.

“I am just a kid who has had the benefit of love of the Lord in process of being brought up, why do you expect a young swan to be able to do it. I do not recognize anybody as my Guru, father or even mother, this is my nature and you must believe it. I know just that all the closeness and ties of affection in the world and the sense of belief as said to be the most important thing to have by some one, all of it is directed only towards you My Lord, you are the one who cares for the distraught and helpless and know well the condition of their heart.

“The Dharma and Niti (the essential duty and course to follow) may only be subject of sermons who has in mind the need for name, fame, accomplishments and the deliverance; who is by heart, deed and word only attached to Your feet, O Kripasindhu, the ocean of mercy, is it ever desirable to disown and leave in lurch such a one.”

(These words of Lakshman say a lot about what a true seeker who has become totally dispassionate and has no need or will for otherwise recommended benefits of life like seeking the Dharma, Artha, Kaam and Moksha, in fact is left to do nothing other than fixing all attention at the feet of Lord, serve Him only all the time. Such a person should have no distraction by way of any goal, no affection invested in any other worldly relation. For this purpose he has to be together with Lord all the time. The separation with Lord will only bring end of life for him. Such people have no duty towards the world including those prescribed in scriptures which are for the beginners in the spiritual pursuits. This tells us that one is required to be careful in this regard, its not for all to leave the path shown by scriptures by taking cue from some ripe Sanyasins who seem to behave extra-ordinarily, until such stage of ripeness is achieved, Guru, father and mother should have the last word.)

We have now covered up to Doha 72 of Ayodhya Kand.

Bhavani Shankar ki Jai!
