We covered up to Doha 74 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas and learned that Sumitra, the mother of Lakshman, first got very upset when she listened to the whole account of Shri Ram’s going to jungles and then she recollected herself and saw the whole matter with a different angle and told her son that if such an occasion had arrived, he should consider Sita as his mother and Shri Ram as his father and go along with them to forest without any hitch. She reminded Lakshman of the divinity of Shri Ram saying that all types of relations should be maintained only keeping Shri Ram at the center, if any of the relations is likely to come in way of keeping the relation with Shri Ram, such a should be instantly be snapped. She also told that Shri Ram is the one who imparts life to life itself i e without him in heart one has nothing more than an animal like existence, He only is the real friend without selfish tendencies.

Sumitra Maa further tells Lakshman, “Only that woman may be called having a son whose son is a devotee of Raghupati Shri Ram, a woman not capable to bear a son is better than who has a son born to her if that son is not a devotee of Ram; its futile to consider that a son who is not a devotee of Ram will do any good to the mother or others. I see no other reason than your good fortune that Shri Ram is leaving for the forest, all the sweet reward for doing all types of good deeds is to be able to keep a natural kind of love for Shri Ram and Sita which makes one follow them where ever they go i e not leave their company but to remain in their service. It is not right to be under influence of vices like passion, anger, jealousy, vanity and obsession or possessiveness, shunning these unhealthy traits you should engage in service of Shri Ram and Sita with your mind, with your hands and with your speech (think of them, bodily serve them and sing praises of them).

“You have to value every thing available in forest and you should be content with it all because you have father and mother like Ram and Sita nearby (i e they know what’s your need etc better than any body else) however, O Son, you must ensure that Ram doesn’t face any kind of trouble or discomfort, this is my sole and sacred advice to you.”

Sumitra Maa summed up by saying, “Son, my only instruction to you is that Ram and Sita should remain happy and be served well; they should forget the parents, the dear ones in the family and the comforts of the city while in the forest, this is what you have to ensure.”

After giving the necessary lessons in behavior and conduct to my Lord Shri Lakshman, says Tulsidas, Mata Sumitra gave him permission to leave and blessed him at the same time saying that may your unbroken and faultless love and devotion towards the feet of Sita and Raghuveer Shri Ram grow every passing day and reach newer heights regularly.

We have now covered up to Doha 75 of Ayodhya Kand.

Lakshman went straight to where Jankinath Shri Ram was after seeing his mother and was now happy to have got permission to keep company of Shri Ram, from his mother; he bowed down at the charming feet of Shri Ram and went to the palace of the king along with Him. The citizens of Ayodhya kept discussing about the circumstances that had become adverse for them suddenly while they were expecting to watch the coronation of Shri Ram. They had suddenly become bodily weak and their faces had lost the glow, their uneasiness matched the condition of the honey-bees upon being deprived of their honey. They rubbed their palms nervously and held their head uneasily like the birds that had lost wings and couldn’t fly. The kings court now was thronged by people and the gloom pervaded the atmosphere there. The minister helped the king to sit up and softly conveyed to him that Shri Ram had arrived back. The king looked at both the sons, Shri Ram and Lakshman, and Sita with them and became very perturbed and uneasy.

The king got more and more uncomfortable and upset when he repeatedly saw the admirable sons standing together and Sita too, he took them all turn by turn in to his embrace out of his intense love for them.

We have now covered up to Doha 76 of Ayodhya Kand.
