रायँ राम राखन हित लागी। बहुत उपाय किए छलु त्यागी।।
लखी राम रुख रहत न जाने। धरम धुरंधर धीर सयाने।।
तब नृप सीय लाइ उर लीन्ही। अति हित बहुत भाँति सिख दीन्ही।।
कहि बन के दुख दुसह सुनाए। सासु ससुर पितु सुख समुझाए।।
सिय मनु राम चरन अनुरागा। घरु न सुगमु बनु बिषमु न लागा।।
औरउ सबहिं सीय समुझाई। कहि कहि बिपिन बिपति अधिकाई।।
सचिव नारि गुर नारि सयानी। सहित सनेह कहहिं मृदु बानी।।
तुम्ह कहुँ तौ न दीन्ह बनबासू। करहु जो कहहिं ससुर गुर सासू।।
दो0–सिख सीतलि हित मधुर मृदु सुनि सीतहि न सोहानि।
सरद चंद चंदनि लगत जनु चकई अकुलानि।।78।।

We covered up to Doha 78 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post an learned that when Shri Ram,Lakshman and Sita came to the king for taking his leave before going to forest, the king tried in many ways but without employing tricks, to convince Ram to stay back, Shri Ram however did not change his mind. The king then brought Sita near him and told her about the difficulties of the forest and benefits of staying either at in-laws place or at her father’s place. Other elderly ladies also tried to put forward the argument that she was not asked to go to forest by any one than why she should not take advice of elders and the Guru but Sita found no comfort in these words though spoken in her precise interest.

सीय सकुच बस उतरु न देई। सो सुनि तमकि उठी कैकेई।।
मुनि पट भूषन भाजन आनी। आगें धरि बोली मृदु बानी।।
नृपहि प्रान प्रिय तुम्ह रघुबीरा। सील सनेह न छाड़िहि भीरा।।
सुकृत सुजसु परलोकु नसाऊ। तुम्हहि जान बन कहिहि न काऊ।।
अस बिचारि सोइ करहु जो भावा। राम जननि सिख सुनि सुखु पावा।।
भूपहि बचन बानसम लागे। करहिं न प्रान पयान अभागे।।
लोग बिकल मुरुछित नरनाहू। काह करिअ कछु सूझ न काहू।।
रामु तुरत मुनि बेषु बनाई। चले जनक जननिहि सिरु नाई।।
दो0-सजि बन साजु समाजु सबु बनिता बंधु समेत।
बंदि बिप्र गुर चरन प्रभु चले करि सबहि अचेत।।79।।

Sita remained silent even after king had finished talking to her because she found it out of etiquette to reply to an elder over such matters but the words of king made Kaikeyi rise up very agitated and furious; she went inside and brought back the attire, beaded strings and rosary etc usually worn by the Munis and some simple utensils for use in exile and put all this before Shri Ram. Later she began to softly say to Shri Ram, “You are a brave Raghu and therefore the king loves you as much as his life, he can not get over with his gentility and his special love for you, he is too weak to do it (Kaikeyi referred to Ram as brave because she wanted to challenge Ram to not show weakness on His part at least).

“And even if his Punyas (the good deeds) go waste or his name gets spoiled and even if his next life gets destroyed (for not remaining truthful), the king would not say by his own mouth to you to leave for forest (she meant that king is going to lose so much due to weakness for you hence you should see reason). In light of this you may do whatever pleases you.”

Shri Ram felt nice listening to the words of the mother (Ram never sees any difference in the three mothers, as Supreme God also he values the three traits, Gyan, Kriya and Bhakti, represented by the three mothers equally). The king however found the piercing words of Kaikeyi like piercing arrows and he thought that even being hurt in this manner his life is not leaving his body. The king later became unconscious and people who had gathered there became restless and none knew what was the course left to them (when there is lack of determination due to lack of real knowledge the loss of sense in the outcome, in spiritual practice also this holds true).

Shri Ram however knew what he had to do and put on the attire like Munis do and bowed down before the father and the mother before moving away. Thus Shri Ram dressed up for the forest, took hold of the paraphernalia suited for living in forest and accompanied by his female life-partner and his brother, Shri Ram made a move towards jungles but only after paying respects to elders and praying at the feet of Guru; all the people collected there felt lifeless watching Him ready to go.

We have now covered up to Doha 79 of Ayodhya Kand.

निकसि बसिष्ठ द्वार भए ठाढ़े। देखे लोग बिरह दव दाढ़े।।
कहि प्रिय बचन सकल समुझाए। बिप्र बृंद रघुबीर बोलाए।।
गुर सन कहि बरषासन दीन्हे। आदर दान बिनय बस कीन्हे।।
जाचक दान मान संतोषे। मीत पुनीत प्रेम परितोषे।।
दासीं दास बोलाइ बहोरी। गुरहि सौंपि बोले कर जोरी।।
सब कै सार सँभार गोसाईं। करबि जनक जननी की नाई।।
बारहिं बार जोरि जुग पानी। कहत रामु सब सन मृदु बानी।।
सोइ सब भाँति मोर हितकारी। जेहि तें रहै भुआल सुखारी।।
दो0-मातु सकल मोरे बिरहँ जेहिं न होहिं दुख दीन।
सोइ उपाउ तुम्ह करेहु सब पुर जन परम प्रबीन।।80।।

When Shri Ram emerged out of the door of Muni Vashishtth’s house and watched people suffering from the heat of impending separation with Himself, he said some nice and soothing words to the people to mitigate their suffering. Raghuveer Shri Ram then called the Vipras and expressed His desire before the Guru and taking his permission offered them grains and other raw stuff to last for an entire year, honoring them with this gift in a courteous manner Shri Ram stole their hearts. Then He deferentially pleased the beggars too by giving them their desired stuffs. Shri Ram then expressed His pure love towards His friends and pleased them greatly. Lastly He called the maids and servants of the household and asked the Guru with hand folded to look after them like the parents do for a child. In the end Shri Ram time and again brought His palms together greeting all those who had assembled there and addressed them in plain endearing words saying that He would consider them all as serving His own interest and welfare who do everything that would keep the king comfortable and keep him pleased; He beseeched everyone there to adopt such ways that would not upset His mothers who were going to be immensely pained and would feel helpless due the pangs of separation from Himself; he told them that as they were very understanding and capable citizens of Ayodhya.

(We may note here that while Shri Ram was satisfied to give mans of sustenance to the wise and knowledgeable citizens, he wished the Guru to take care of the humble people like the servants and maids like their parent; the God cares for and loves more the humble and the weak.)
