We covered up to Doha 80 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Shri Ram left the palace in attire of Munis and after paying respects to Guru and elders stood out in the open. There he found the citizens gathered but in pathetic mood in view of the impending separation from himself; Shri Ram explained matters to them and tried to calm them. Shri Ram then respectfully gave food grains etc to Vipras sufficient to last for a whole year and also satiated other needy people with offerings in same respectable way. He later summoned the servants and maids of the palace and handed them in guardianship of Guru Vashishtth requesting him to take care of them all like a parent. He then addressed all the people assembled there proclaiming them to be wise and understanding and expected them to serve the king in best manner possible and to keep the mothers amused in their hour of crisis and distress due to his leaving them back here and Himself going to forest.

एहि बिधि राम सबहि समुझावा। गुर पद पदुम हरषि सिरु नावा।

रामु चले बन प्रान न जाहीं। केहि सुख लागि रहत तन माहीं।

This is how Shri Ram tried to make all understand what he wanted from the loving people of Ayodhya to be done in His absence and then Shri Ram put his head down at lotus feet of Guru Vashishtth, in his heart He wished grace of Ganpati and Gauri (Ganesh and Maa Parvati; Ganesh because he is the lord of wisdom and remover of obstacles and Mother Parvati is symbol of firm resolve. Shri Ram through out had a feeling that lovelorn people, family members and even the Guru may attempt to keep Him back in Ayodhya making his wish to see Bharat as king and to visit forest for sake of Munis and for annihilation of demons go unfulfilled and also thought that His own heart may melt after seeing the plight of people watching Him go. The wisdom and firm resolve were the two types of strengths needed at this hour of crisis), Shri Ram received blessing of both, of the Guru directly and of the gods though His Guru.

What happened was what Shri Ram had expected, when He moved to leave from there the atmosphere became very gloomy; the wailing by people at hitch filled the skies all over the city. His leaving Ayodhya had made Ayodhya steeped in grief and pessimism but in Lanka very many bad omens had appeared right at that time (signaling the end of tyrannical order established by the demon king Ravan), this made the gods feel bad for Ayodhya and feel good for their eventual emancipation and freedom from being under the scepter of the demonic power which had been troubling them badly, at the same time.

In the mean time the king regained his consciousness and then spoke to Sumantra, his alter ego, saying, "How is this that Ram has gone but my breath is holding, what expectation of pleasure keeps it dwelling in the body (which for all purposes is now dead). What on earth there is a greater heartache than this that the breathing hasn't stopped."

The king then paused for a while to regain composure before speaking again and said, "O Friend, you may go with them to forest on a chariot, the two princes and the princess Sita are yet very delicate (they are only now going to enter the age of youth which makes the body is not strong enough to bear pains and rigors); you may take them around the forests for a few days and bring them back (because Shri Ram wants to visit forest so let His wish fructify too)."

We have now covered up to Doha 81 of Ayodhya Kand.

King Dashrath gave further instructions to Sumantra saying, "If the two brothers known to have firm resolve don't turn back and Shri Ram is even more than that, He is Himself the consolidation of truth (The Supreme God is quintessentially the truth, conscience and bliss) and strong in matters of vows hence you may urge and plead with them with folded hands so that master of the young daughter of king of Mithila (Janakpur region) may ask her to return. Sita also would be showing signs of fear after going in to thick forests, at that very moment you may remind her of my counsel (may be she then receives it better and accepts).

"Even as a message from our side as her parent-in-laws you may tell her that we wish our daughter to return back in view of unbearable hardships posed by living in forests. She would be here for some time and might go and stay at her father's house at other times, as per her choice. In this way employ all such means that may work for her return and in this way may be I will find some reason to keep my life going otherwise my death is sure to take place as the result (of separation from these dear ones). When the Lord of destiny itself is hostile no other power can control the way it plays out."

The king then dropped on ground unconsciously shouting the words "get Ram,Lakhan and Sita here, I want to see them' (even while not conscious these words were coming out of his mouth, such was his love for them). The minister, after getting these directions from the king, bowed an left on his chariot raising its speed (to catch up with Shri Ram) and reached the outskirts of the city where he found the two brothers and Sita.

We have now covered up to Doha 82 of Ayodhya Kand.
