मासपारायण, पंद्रहवा विश्राम

We covered up to Doha 93 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Lakshman gave further insight in to reality of this world to Guha, the Nishad, and said that Guha should come out of his agitative mental state and also not blame any one because the time spent by Jeevatma in this world is like a night of delusion and people just keep dreaming like in a sleep while the Yogis keep waking during this dark period because they understand reality and therefore remain aloof internally from the worldly business. When the Jeevatma thus achieves power of discretion it no more remains confused and prefers to surrender at feet of the Lord Ram because it is the ultimate gain beyond the righteous living that in thought, word and deed only feet of Shri Ram remain the focal point; Shri Ram only is the Brahman but in human form though as Brahman He only is that unknown, unseen, without beginning and most extraordinary, He only is that purest and seem-less who is not describable wholly but is indicated by negation of what the limited perceptions reveals of Him; He comes down as an avatar only for sake of Bhaktas, cows, the earth and the gods to restore order, upon learning of His Leelas only the falsehood of the mundane world does not bind.

Lastly Lakshman advised his friend the Nishad King Guha to shed his own false understanding in light of what he told him and asked him to also simply engage in serving the feet of Shri Ram with attention. In this manner they kept talking of virtues of Shri Ram till early morning and Shri Ram, the source of all welfare and pleasure of entire world got up too. Shri Ram then attended to all routine activities of the day and took bath. Shri Ram who is always pure and possesses all knowledge, asked for the milk of the banyan tree and applied to his own and to younger brother’s hairs on head and turned them in to locks (to dispense with tedious care of hairs in the jungles); Sumantra, the minister who was watching this got tears in his eyes, his face paled and his heart became heavy. Sumanta then folded his hands and spoke, very regretfully and helplessly, addressing Shri Ram, “O Master, the King of Ayodhya had asked me to take You on the chariot to the jungle and show around. Afterwards to bring you both back instantly after you both have taken dip in holy water of Ganga. His order to me is to bring You, Lakshman and Sita back to Ayodhya by expelling any doubts might have cropped up and by making You, Lakshman and Sita overcome any kind of reservation or reluctance.

“This is what the king said to me but I am very much disposed to do whatever be Your wish, O Goswami (i e the one who has control over senses).” With these words Sumant fell down at the feet of Shri Ram and began crying like an innocent child.

(Sumant too was now aware that Shri Ram’s will is what should and will prevail hence could not have courage to tell Shri Ram any thing that might seem a challenge as Sumant by now also had some inkling about Shri Ram’s divinity by seeing behavior and resolve of Shri Ram and therefore he perforce acted like a child and not as senior to Shri Ram.)

We have now covered up to Doha 94 of Ayodhya Kand.
