We covered up to Doha 106 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Shri Ram and others reached near Tirthraj Prayag, the highest of the holy places. Shri Ram praised it and recounted glories of this holy place and bathed in the holy waters after which he worshiped the Shiv-Linga made of sand and worshiped the deity of the place too.  Later Shri Ram reached at the Ashram of Muni Bhardwaj and did Pranam to him by prostrating before him (it is never sufficient to just visit the holy places without visiting the saints and seekers; they should command the visitor’s ful respect, then only the true benefit of visiting the holy places can be had). Muni Bhardwaj then lifted up Shri Ram and took Him in embrace and it was full reward for all his Tapas and performance of prescribed deeds because the pleasure felt by him was no less then pleasure of being one with the Supreme Lord of Universe.

Muni Bhardwaj inquired of the welfare of the visitors as well as offered them seats; Honoring them with love Muni also made them feel satisfied and at home. Muni then brought for them very tasty roots, spouts and fruits etc which were as good as nectar in taste and effect. Shri Ram had the offered eatables with great relish along with Sita, Lakshman  and Guha (who had accompanied to do chores for Shri Ram and others till they settle down, Shri Ram never considered him separated from the group while having food etc.).

After a while when Shri Ram lost the fatigue acquired by him while travelling and felt comfortable and refreshed, the Muni spoke to Him in sweet words, “It is now that I have received the benefit of doing Tapas and renunciation etc while staying at this holy place, it is today that the success has been achieved after doing Japa, Yoga (the efforts at being one with God) and for being dispassionate etc.. Having sight of You O Ram, all the means adopted by me like observing sacred duties etc. seem to be giving result. This is the ultimate benefit and this only is the ultimate joy and satisfaction; only when one has Your sight, the hope becomes reality. You must now with Your grace confer on me blessings that ensure my natural love for Your lotus feet (here Muni displayed his knowledge that he was faced with the Supreme Lord, he endorsed the fact the religious practices and penance etc, the purpose of all meditation, staying at Tirthas etc. all meant to be having a glimpse of Lord and ask for a natural attachment for feet of Lord; it all was for just this and none of it was an end in itself).”

Muni further said, “Until the time one becomes Your servant in words, thoughts and deeds shedding all sorts of manipulative stance, no relaxation or peace is possible even when one engages in ritualistic activities and other prescribed practices (to try to be amiable to what God wants is better then observing religious practices; insight of what is God’s desire comes with a natural kind of love for His feet, the practices may purify but ultimately the God’s blessing ensures this natural devotion).”

We have now covered up to Doha 107 of Ayodhya Kand.

सुनि मुनि बचन रामु सकुचाने। भाव भगति आनंद अघाने।।

चले सहित सिय लखन जन मुददित मुनिहि सिरु नाइ।।108।।

Shri Ram felt a bit embarrassed up on listening to words of Muni (because he was never inclined to make it apparent to people in general that He was none else then the Supreme Lord of universe and here Muni was declaring that before everyone; however the Lord appreciated that the devotees who stayed at sacred Tirthas, lived righteously and did Tapas etc were capable of knowing Him and could speak so with authority) but He also enjoyed to the maximum the sentiments of devotional love expressed by Muni. Raghubar Shri Ram then told all those present there in many ways the achievements and glories of Muni Bharadwaj and finally declared that one who received the honor and respect from Muni becomes someone great and abode of all virtues (trying to convey that Muni had rubbed off greatness on Him by honoring Him and also meant that Muni knew who was to be honored and worshiped i e He had known the Truth hence the God). Muni Bharadwaj and Raghuveer Shri Ram both bowed down before each other (the Sadhus and the God should be treated with equal respect by us is the message for us) and felt such height of blissfulness as can’t be explained through words (the message for us is that meeting a Sadhu is as much blissful as meeting the Supreme God, they only show path leading to Lord and ultimately salvation).

When people learned of coming of Shri Ram, all the inhabitants of Prayag like the Brahmcharis (the disciples of great Masters), the Tapaswees (those who observe penance etc), the Munis, the Sidhhas (accomplished sages) and the dispassionate wanderers (who had no worldly interests left) came rushing to the Ashram of Muni Bharadwaj to personally meet the great sons of King Dashrath (as they had some knowledge themselves about the reality of the two princes and also had overheard what Muni Bharadwaj had declared). Shri Ram however reverentially bowed down before them and all became happy after getting the benefit of having eyes i e enjoyed the pleasure that flowed up on having sight of them.

(They became so overwhelmed that they forgot to appreciate that they had the Supreme Lord before them and here we can see that Ram Kripa (the grace of Lord is responsible before the God reveals the reality about Himself; best is to follow the path suggested by Gurus, the seekers should patiently wait).

All of them then happily gave their blessings to the young princes though they had just had the ultimate pleasure after seeing them (but still remained unaware of the reality about them) and returned telling each other the extent of beauty of the two princes.

Shri Ram had rest in the night at the Ashram and took bath in morning at Prayag (the point of confluence of two rivers) and later resumed journey, after happily bowing down before the Muni, along with Sita, Lakshman and Guh (the friend, follower and servant).

We have now covered up to Doha 108 of Ayodhya Kand.
