We covered up to Doha 134 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that after Shri Ram settled on mount Chitrakoot, the gods and other divine beings came to pay their respects and also have the benefit of enjoying the beautiful sight of their Lord in form of Shri Ram. They thanked their protector Shri Ram and also related their woes and then left happily for their abodes assured that their troubles will now come to an end. All the Munis also came to meet Shri Ram and were given due respect by Shri Ram; Munis embraced Him and blessed Him too for being successful in His endeavors. Later they went back and commenced their spiritual practices with greater devotion as they had now had Darshan of their Lord Himself and also of Sita and Lakshman which they supposed was the best reward for their discipline and devotional exercises.

यह सुधि कोल किरातन्ह पाई। हरषे जनु नव निधि घर आई।।

When the local tribesmen learned of arrival of Shri Ram, they also became happy like they had some extra riches (all nine kinds of riches that Kuber, the god of wealth, is supposed to have) had come in to their homes (they were satisfied to have riches in the form of forest and other natural resources there but now with Shri Ram’s presence in their midst they considered themselves more lucky and more enriched); they rushed with bulbs/stems, fruits and roots held in cups made of leaves, like the paupers who now had opportunity to lay hands on gold like precious things.

As not all of them had seen Shri Ram and His brother Lakshman so far, those who had not seen Him kept inquiring about His special attractiveness on their way which was leading them to Him only and shortly came face to face with Him. They paid their respects to Shri Ram by placing their gifts before Him (it is customary to offer some gifts in respect when a member of royal descent is met) and with great affection they kept looking at Him, they stood still like in a picture in reverence where ever they happened to be but their eyes were filled with tears and bodies were trembling (it is also part of etiquette to stand without moving for the subjects but that discipline could not be observed by them in full as eyes and bodies were affected by the excess of love in their hearts for Shri Ram).

Shri Ram observed that they were overwhelmingly in love for Him and honored them from His side by saying pleasing and endearing words. The visitors too welcoming and saluting Him again and again spoke very cordially and courteously, “With Your presence and looking at Your feet O Lord we have become safe and sheltered,it seems that our good fortune is behind Your stepping here, O the king of Kaushala.”

(They addressed Shri Ram as King of Kaushala, mother Kaushalya was from Kaushala and her father had no other heir hence Shri Ram naturally became the King after the demise of maternal grandfather. The tribesmen knew that Shri Ram had been exiled but they still wanted to address Him as the king and were not technically wrong also. Shri Ram also had announced before Mother Kaushalya that he was going to rule the forests as per direction of father who had only asked Him to live in forest garbed as Muni but not relinquish any other position. This empowered him to establish the rule of law like a king in jungles and this was the point particularly making every forest-dweller feel secured and under His protection.)

We have now covered up to Doha 135 of Ayodhya Kand.
