We covered up to Doha 157 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post learned that Muni Vashishhtth arrived at the palace and took charge of the situation. He first ensured that the body of the king was kept preserved while Bharat comes to Ayodhya and promptly sent fast runners with message to Bharat to return forthwith along with brother Shatrughan, both had gone to visit their maternal uncle. Bharat already had intuitive feeling that all was not well in Ayodhya and that his dear ones were in trouble before the messengers arrived. He worshiped Lord Shiv and prayed for welfare of the family members and also entertained Vipras with food and gifts for their blessings. After runners reached Bharat and he received the message of Guru he promptly left Ayodhya along with brother invoking Lord Ganesha.

चले समीर बेग हय हाँके। नाघत सरित सैल बन बाँके।।

On way back Bharat drove the horses at the speed of wind and crossed rivers and dense forest like the wind crosses. He was in pensive mood and worried and only wished to fly in to Ayodhya. Each moment passed like a whole year for him and like this BHarat reached precincts of Ayodhya but while entering it he saw many bad omens taking place like crows cawing badly at wrong points, like donkeys and jackals making sounds indicating trouble and this kept piercing heart of Bharat for he feared untoward things happening in Ayodhya. Bharat found that even the rivers of Ayodhya, the forests around it and the gardens now had lost the beauty and charm and the city in particular seemed a haunted place. The bird, the animals and even the elephants and horses looked miserable and weak and therefore he didn’t have courage to look at them as they seemed to be suffering on account of separation from Shri Ram. The citizens of Ayodhya, including women seemed depressed and dejected as if they had lost all their wealth and peace.

Who ever of them happened to meet Bharat just saluted him respectfully without speaking a word, on his part Bharat could not summon courage to inquire of the welfare of them all because of his own fears and sadness creeping in his heart at the sight of people and the place.

We have now covered up to Doha 158 of Ayodhya Kand.
