We covered up to Doha 160 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Kaikeyi first took credit for doing something great with help of Manthara and then broke the news of King Dashrath leaving for heavenly abode terming it to be just a play of God .This disclosure made Bharat cringe with pain and fall to the ground and he began to cry badly calling his father loudly. He felt sorry that he couldn’t meet his father while he was dying and neither he was entrusted to the care of Shri Ram by the father. Slowly he collected himself and then wished to know from mother the reason behind the death of his father. Then heartless and crooked Kaikeyi narrated whole episode with elation from beginning including her own role listening to which Bharat became speechless and motionless, he was now not so concerned with loss of father but more burdened with the thought that he himself was responsible in some way for exile of Shri Ram.

When Kaikeyi saw her son totally upset and under great distress, she began to console him but in a way she was attempting to apply salt to the wound of afflicted when she said to Bharat, “O Son, it is pointless to grieve for the king, his noble deeds earned him good name and he enjoyed every thing in life; in a way he got all the benefits that one longs for while living and also when he left the world he has only gone to the abode of the lord of immortal gods (where nothing lacks). With this assurance you should stop worrying and stop feeling dejected, its the time now that you take control of all departments of governance and rule over the sate of Ayodhya.”
Prince Bharat rattled listening to such words, it was nothing less than inflamed cut being touched by a lighted piece of coal for him but he recollected himself keeping utmost patience but still breathed heavily. Bharat thought that this vicious woman had brought down the whole family to ruin and said to his mother Kaikeyi, “If you had such nefarious design and such an inclination then why did you not kill me right when I was born (as now I have grown up and you have brought to me a pass that is no less than death for me); you water the leaves after cutting roots of a plant, you wish to keep alive the fish after draining out the water of pond (what great purpose such efforts are for).
“I belong to a family of descendants of sun (which always shines brightly), my father happens to be great king Dashrath besides I am fortunate to have brothers like Shri Ram and Lakshman but just see my hard luck that its you who is my mother, really none can challenge what Vidhi, the creator, has already decided to be ones fate.”
(We learn here that those who have body-orientation think only in terms of comforts of the body hence for Kaikeyi it was no matter to worry for the king had gone to enjoy more pleasures in the realm of gods and that it was best life spent if the comforts and pleasures have been enjoyed. On the contrary Bharat established the cardinal principle that any one who is adverse to or in conflict with Shri Ram, he should not be kept any connection with, he therefore is not thinking twice and is already in process of snapping ties with his own mother. We see here the two extremes, one with total interest in gross world and the other in only world of spirituality and yet it is true also that in this world, even the enlightened and spiritual people have to take birth through gross. The subtle soul has to adopt the gross body that takes shape in mother’s womb, however, later the gross is not what that matters but the spirit should remain pure.)
We have now covered up to Doha 160 of Ayodhya Kand.
