We covered up to Doha 161 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Kaikeyi began to explain matters to give some comfort to Bharat but it worked for him like she was putting salt on burned skin. She told Bharat to stop worrying for father as he earned good name due to his righteous living while alive and enjoyed most luxuries of life besides he would live in heaven after death to enjoy his time there too. In this light stop grieving for him and concentrate on ruling the empire. Listening to this from mother, prince Bharat got puzzled all the more like his wound was touched by an ignited coal-piece. Keeping patience but sighing Bharat thought that this wicked women had destroyed the whole family. He told Kaikeyi if she had such gory intentions why didn’t she kill when he was born and that he was unfortunate to have her as his mother while he belonged to sun-race, had father like Dashrath and likes of  Ram and Lakshman as brothers; it all seemed to be play of providence to him.

Bharat further said to mother, “O Ill-witted One, why didn’t your heart break in to pieces right when this kind of evil thought begin to develop in your psyche. Why did your mind not feel the pain when you asked for such boons, why did not your tongue melt and why your mouth did not get infected. I wonder how could king maintain confidence in you (because as a head of state he was not supposed to play in hands of some one who had lost his confidence, this was the point Bharat made), it seems that Vidhi (creator) snatched from him his brain power and thinking ability. It is true that what goes on in a woman’s heart and mind is not fathomable even for the gods which might well be mine of all kinds of deceit, sins and bad qualities (Bharat meant that it may contain different layers like a mine and what exactly is not possible to know until its unearthed i e gets revealed).

“Even otherwise he being straight, civilized and cultured and mostly engaged in doing righteous acts, he could not have known much about the traits of women. There is no living being including animals etc who do not love Raghunath Shri Ram like their life itself, such Shri Ram looked most damaging to your cause to you, why don’t you tell me what is the reality of you. Now whoever you are, you may besmear your face with black ink and sit some where to remain out of my sight (Bharat knew he could not think rationally in her presence and it was time to take care of so many things as per the demand of duty).

“The fact is that I have been fated to be born out of the womb of someone who is inimical to Shri Ram and therefore it is meaningless for me to badly address you, who is more a sinner than me for my birth itself is through a wrong person like you (Bharat now wanted to do away with blame game and concentrate on what was to be done next).”

We have now covered up to Doha 162 of Ayodhya Kand.
