We covered up to Doha 163 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that when Shatrughan came to know of mother Kaikeyi’s craftiness, his whole body burned due to anger; right then he saw Manthara entering there heavily dressed and ornamented and could not contain his anger. In a swift move he aimed at the hump of Manthra and kicked who then fell to ground oozing blood with broken teeth. She exclaimed loudly asking what wrong did she commit if she helped in the cause and therefore should she be treated in this manner. Enraged to the maximum Shatrughan had begun to drag her by hair but Bharat showing mercy saved her. Then the two brothers went to meet Kaushlya; there they found her very weak and crushed under the weight of immense load of suffering and worries.

Seeing Bharat, mother Kaushalya made and attempt to get up and go near him but fell to the ground as she felt giddy and became unconscious. Bharat became uneasy and greatly distressed noting her condition and fell at the feet of mother unable to balance his own body. Bharat murmured, “O Mother, where is father, just show me where is he now, and tell me too where have Sita and my two brothers, Shri Rama and Lakshman have gone to. Also I wish to know why do mothers like Kaikeyi get born in the world and if they have to then why couldn’t they remain issueless. She has given birth to me, a disgrace and a pot infamy being a schemer against the near and dear ones. Who might be more mean and hard of luck than me in all the three spheres who is the cause behind such condition of yours. That father is no more and that the torch bearer Shri Ram has gone to jungle, responsible for such state of affairs in only me.

“I am to be blamed for starting the fire in the forest of bamboos (Bharat called it forest of bamboos only to indicate that among the family of the straight people only he is a crooked one) and see, its me only who is suffering under the unbearable heat of that fire, I am now the sufferer as well as would be known as wrong doer, the one who is at fault.”

Mother Kaushalya, listening to softly spoken words of Bharat, again made an effort and got up, she then lifted Bharat up and brought him under close embrace while profusely shedding tears.

We have now covered up to Doha 164 of Ayodhya Kand.
