We covered up to Doha 168 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulidas in the last post and learned that Bharat’s outbursts continued and he told mothers that if there was any part played by him in the tragic happenings of Ayodhya he might well suffer as much as those who sell Vedas, who extract profit out of religious ventures, who expose friends by telling their misdeeds, who cheat, quarrel often and get too angry for small matters, who revile Vedas and act against all, who are greedy scoundrels, who covet wealth and women of others. Bharat wished Lord Shiv to let him suffer same ignominy as he provides for those who despise company of Sadhus, who stop treading path leading to liberation, who don’t worship Lord Hari though have body of humans (only as humans have this privilege, its not for animals or even gods), who hate to listen to glories of Lord Shiv and of Lord Hari, who follow reverse course neglecting ways suggested by Vedas, who disguise differently only to cheat, in case he has had any inkling about what went on. Listening to Bharat’s simple words conveyed in natural way, mother Kaushalya endorsed that he has always been dear to Shri Ram in every way.

Mother Kaushalya further told Bharat, “I know that Ram is very dear to you being life of your life itself and you too are no less dear than life to Shri Ram. Moon may shower poison rather than nectar in form of rays or the ice may turn fiery, the animals which need water to move may start disliking water, the enlightenment may not bring the needed vision that nothing in world is our exclusive possession (i e enlightenment itself is such knowledge and is not the cause of this knowledge) but to think that you will become adverse to Shri Ram is impossible. Any body who will say or think that you had knowledge of or agreement for all that happened, will never have any peace or desirable fate, even in their dreams.” With these words mother Kaushalya once again brought Bharat near to her bosom and out of her love for this child of hers, her breasts oozed milk and her eyes got filled with tears. In this way lamenting in numerous ways spent the whole night only sitting.

With night gone, Rishi Vamdev and Guru Vashishtth came there; they then summoned all the ministers and respectable citizens of Ayodhya. Muni also gave Bharat sermons and preached in many ways, he explained him what constituted the ultimate course and benefit but only in accordance with the demand of time at that moment.

Guru told Bharat, “O Son, be patient in your heart not just outwardly (as the Kashtriyas do not easily display any weakness, emotional or otherwise) and prepare to do what this occasion demands.” This was enough of signal for Bharat and he instantly got up and gave instruction to arrange for the funeral etc and took charge of the situation.

We have now covered up to Doha 169 of Ayodhya Kand.
