We covered up to Doha 185 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that all those who listened to Bharat’s sentiment laden but very logical lecture in the assembly were delighted very much (that Bharat thought very rightly and that there is now a ray of hope of meeting Shri Ram). They showed their respect for the Muni and no less for Bharat before leaving for home and decided to get ready for the journey towards jungle the next morning. Some who were told to stay back to guard the homes became very dejected but some others came to their help saying that nothing should be done that comes in way of taking a course that would enable to have look at the feet of Shri Ram hence all should join the entourage.

In most households different types of vehicles were being readied for the journey to be commenced in the morning with immense pleasure. After retiring to home Bharat gave some cool thought that the city, the horses and elephants, the buildings and also the treasure of the state all belonged to Raghupati Shri Ram (he always believed that all the riches and possessions do in fact belong to Almighty Lord and nothing should be seen as owned by self), if he neglected to make arrangements for its safety then it would not be good on his part nor in his own interest; if any loss occurred with respect to all this then he only would be seen as totally irresponsible and as an errant even in eyes of Shri Ram, his master.

Bharat determined in his heart that a servant is not just for name sake, only who serves the interest of his master is really a servant, even though some might fault him for securing wealth etc with selfish motive (he knew that some people are good at only finding faults with every thing). With these kind of thoughts going on in his mind, Bharat called some servants who were of good character and standing and who would not be deviant or careless even in their dreams. Then Bharat explained all the details and their specific duties and put them at the strategic points according to their capacity and talent.

After making all possible arrangements with regard to security Bharat went up to mother Kaushalya. There Bharat noted that the mothers were under great distress but he also knew well of their affection towards Shri Ram being thoroughly aware of emotions pertaining to love and therefore could make out that the mothers would come along so he instructed some experts to make ready palanquins with comfortable seating suitable for the elite people.

(Through out it can be seen that Bharat though greatly distressed himself on one hand, has been fully aware of his duties on the other hand; his balanced thinking and attitude of inquiry has not got affected by the emotionally upsetting event. This kind of equanimity is rarely seen but is must for the achievements in any field.)

We have now covered up to Doha 186 of Ayodhya Kand.

चक्क चक्कि जिमि पुर नर नारी। चहत प्रात उर आरत भारी।।

All the men and women passed that night waking up anguished in heart and restless for the dawn oblivious of the presence of their partners like female and male Chakravak birds spend their nights. Keeping awake for the whole night they saw break of the day; Bharat then called his perceptive and responsible ministers and asked them to assemble all items and stuffs needed for performance of Tilak ceremony by Muni Vashishtth in the forest itself enabling accession of Shri Ram to the throne of Ayodhya and to arrange to leave at the earliest. Ministers in turn sent word to assistants and the chariots, horses and elephants etc were speedily readied for the journey.

First of all Muni Vashishtth and his consort Arundhati along with the sacred fire for purpose of Agnihotra ascended a chariot and went ahead of all; then the groups of Vipras who were aglow due to their observation of spiritual practices with requisite discipline followed riding different types of vehicles. The citizens also in their respective modes of transport, duly equipped, also headed towards Chitrakoot. All the queens accompanied riding in decorated palanquins.

The two brothers Bharat and Shatrughan gave charge of the city to the honest and trusted servants and honorably asked all others to proceed and then placing their minds at the feet of Shri Ram and Sita began their journey keeping themselves at back of the caravan.

(Bharat and Shatrughan felt obliged to be like servants of the Bhaktas (devotees) of the Lord and did not wish go to meet Shri Ram as members of royal household. The journey towards the Lord is best undertaken without a trace of ego and by facilitating all those who strive to go near the Lord.)

We have now covered up to Doha 187 of Ayodhya Kand.
