We covered up to Doha 196 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Maans of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Guha expressed his gratitude towards Shri Ram saying that though he happened to be from low caste, was meek and had not been engaged in righteous activities neither had rich intellect yet when Shri Ram adopted him to be made His own, he had such great reward that all considered him to be respectable. Guha then was met by Shatrughan too and Guha later paid his respects to the queen mothers and received their blessing for leading a long happy life. The citizens also appreciated Guha as an equal of Lakshman and praised him for the being close to Shri Ram. Guha also felt relieved now and ordered his people to prepare suitable places for the stay of Bharat’s army of people and requested all to come along with him.

Upon sighting Shrigverpur, Bharat felt weakness in his all limbs due to his affection for Shri Ram (because he was reminded of the time when Shri Ram had halted and stayed for the first night in exile at this place in open along with Sita) and took support of Nishad Guha presenting a good sight to look at as one seemed an embodiment of affection and the other the embodiment of submissive humility. In this manner, together with the army of his people, Bharat went to visit the river Ganga from close quarter which has the capacity to purify the whole world; coming close to the spot on the bank where Shri Ram had spent time Bharat reverentially bowed down and became lost in thoughts as if he had met with Shri Ram Himself (in eyes of the Bhaktas all those spots and Tirthas which have been visited by their most loved Lord are fully charged with the power of Him and they feel like being with Him in person whenever they happen to be at such spots). Following Bharat all the citizens of Ayodhya also devotedly bowed down; they felt pleased to look at the water of the river Ganga which is in any case full of effect of the Supreme Lord (as it flows from the toe of Him as the Poranic story goes, this shows slight difference in how the people felt and how Bharat felt). All of them submerging themselves in the holy water of Ganga and drinking it, they wished for, with folded hands, being granted the never diminishing and quite abundant love at the feet of Shri Ram (as Ganga is supposed to bestow any thing wished for provided it holds benefit for the one asking it). Bharat too prayed before the Ganga saying, “O Divine Mother Ganga, the sands where your flow give comfort to all and to your servants its like Surdhenu (the divine cow which can take care of all that is needed); I therefore pray to be given boon which will ensure my natural love at the feet of mother-like Sita and Shri Ram.”

In this manner Bharat took a dip in he purifying water of Ganga and then ensured that all the mothers had also taken bath with water of the flowing divine river; after seeking Guru’s permission he requested all to move towards the camping sights for night’s stay.

Reaching at spots meant for stay, people settled themselves at their respective places and Bharat personally inquired about their convenience. It was now dusk and time to be in service of the gods by performing evening worship (Sandhyavandan) which both brothers did and taking permission of mother of Shri Ram to see her they went to meet her; Bharat then tried to relieve the pain of the feet of mothers by softly massaging them and then pleasantly spoke some words duly honoring them. A little while later Bharat entrusted the service of the mothers to his broher Shatrughan and summoned Nishad Guha to be with himself. When Nishad Guha came, Bharat took his hand in his own hand left for a stroll together with him but he felt numbness in his body due to the surge of emotions under influence of love; while moving around Bharat asked his friend saying, “Show me that particular spot where Sita, Shri Ram and Lakshman spent their night, I want to cool down my eyes and heart and get some comfort from the sense of burning.” Uttering these words, the corners of Bharat’s eyes got filled with tears; Nishad Guha too felt very sad and sorrowful after listening to words of Bharat and straightly took him to that very spot where under the holy rosewood tree the great Raghu Shri Ram had rested for the night. Bharat immediately prostrated there with a deep sense of love and respect for Shri Ram.

We have now covered up to Doha 198 of Ayodhya Kand.
