बन प्रदेस मुनि बास घनेरे। जनु पुर नगर गाउँ गन खेरे।।
बिपुल बिचित्र बिहग मृग नाना। प्रजा समाजु न जाइ बखाना।।
खगहा करि हरि बाघ बराहा। देखि महिष बृष साजु सराहा।।
बयरु बिहाइ चरहिं एक संगा। जहँ तहँ मनहुँ सेन चतुरंगा।।
झरना झरहिं मत्त गज गाजहिं। मनहुँ निसान बिबिधि बिधि बाजहिं।।
चक चकोर चातक सुक पिक गन। कूजत मंजु मराल मुदित मन।।
अलिगन गावत नाचत मोरा। जनु सुराज मंगल चहु ओरा।।
बेलि बिटप तृन सफल सफूला। सब समाजु मुद मंगल मूला।।
दो-राम सैल सोभा निरखि भरत हृदयँ अति पेमु।
तापस तप फलु पाइ जिमि सुखी सिरानें नेमु।।236।।

We covered up to Doha 236 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post an learned that Bharat saw a divinity all around the place where Shri Ram had settled on the mount Chitrakoot. Great Munis had their ashrams all around, birds of many varieties could be seen there and all sorts of animals freely roamed about without threatening others or feeling threatened. The place had rich vegetation and scenic beauty. Mixed sound from various sources was pleasing to ears. It presented a sight of a well governed region. Bharat’s heart got filled with emotions after seeing the charm of the surroundings in the same way as would a devoted seeker feel pleased when gets rewarded for his Tapa done while observing a tough routine laced with onerous vows.

तब केवट ऊँचें चढ़ि धाई। कहेउ भरत सन भुजा उठाई।।
नाथ देखिअहिं बिटप बिसाला। पाकरि जंबु रसाल तमाला।।
जिन्ह तरुबरन्ह मध्य बटु सोहा। मंजु बिसाल देखि मनु मोहा।।
नील सघन पल्ल्व फल लाला। अबिरल छाहँ सुखद सब काला।।
मानहुँ तिमिर अरुनमय रासी। बिरची बिधि सँकेलि सुषमा सी।।
ए तरु सरित समीप गोसाँई। रघुबर परनकुटी जहँ छाई।।
तुलसी तरुबर बिबिध सुहाए। कहुँ कहुँ सियँ कहुँ लखन लगाए।।
बट छायाँ बेदिका बनाई। सियँ निज पानि सरोज सुहाई।।
दो0-जहाँ बैठि मुनिगन सहित नित सिय रामु सुजान।
सुनहिं कथा इतिहास सब आगम निगम पुरान।।237।।

When Bharat and Guha were very near, the boatman went high up on the mountain speedily and said to Bharat raising his hand, “O Master, look at those big trees, Pakad, Jamun, Mango and Tamal and then notice the beautiful Vatvruksh i e banyan tree right in the middle of those charming trees which is very large and very attractive to engage the heart itself. Its shade is almost blue under dense leaves and its fruits are red in hue, its dense shadow remains available all the time and provides great comfort; it presents a sight that is sumptuously dark as well as bright red and it seems that creator brought together all the splendor and luster available to make it. Its near that tree towards the side of river where the cottage made of leaves has been put up for Raghuveer Shri Ram. There you might notice a lot of Tulsi (basil) plants of great variety, some of them have been planted by Sita and some by Lakshman. Under the banyan tree, a Vedika (where fire is lighted and oblation is offered) has been prepared by the lotus like hands of Sita.

“It is here that the knowledgeable scholar Shri Ram and Sita sit along with groups of Munis and listen to all stories and historical accounts of events that find mention in Aagams, Vedas and Puranas.”

(Here we can see that at a new home, even in the wild, the Tulsi plants are first to be planted and an atmosphere of learning and company of good, holy and learned men is to be ensured. Like wise a Vedi through Homa connects to gods and enables the sharing of every thing in spirit of Yagna with all known and unknown people and worlds. If this much is taken care of, rest of the needs might be met as per the availability at the place and do not affect the well being of the dwellers in the new home. The basil plants keep the atmosphere pure and healthy, the presence of holy men and the discussion of the holy books makes the mind healthy and pure.)

We have now covered up to Doha 237 of Ayodhya Kand.

सखा बचन सुनि बिटप निहारी। उमगे भरत बिलोचन बारी।।
करत प्रनाम चले दोउ भाई। कहत प्रीति सारद सकुचाई।।
हरषहिं निरखि राम पद अंका। मानहुँ पारसु पायउ रंका।।
रज सिर धरि हियँ नयनन्हि लावहिं। रघुबर मिलन सरिस सुख पावहिं।।
देखि भरत गति अकथ अतीवा। प्रेम मगन मृग खग जड़ जीवा।।
सखहि सनेह बिबस मग भूला। कहि सुपंथ सुर बरषहिं फूला।।
निरखि सिद्ध साधक अनुरागे। सहज सनेहु सराहन लागे।।
होत न भूतल भाउ भरत को। अचर सचर चर अचर करत को।।
दो0-पेम अमिअ मंदरु बिरहु भरतु पयोधि गँभीर।
मथि प्रगटेउ सुर साधु हित कृपासिंधु रघुबीर।।238।।

When Bharat and Shatrughan listened to words of his friend Nishad Guha and looked at the trees, they had tears welling up in eyes; they first did Pranam towards Shri Ram and then went further ahead. At this moment the extent of their love for Shri Ram was so much that even Sharada (goddess of speech) could not have described it. The brothers felt delighted when they found the impressions of their beloved brother Shri Ram’s feet, it was for them like a pauper having got the philosopher’s stone right in his hand. They picked dust of from such imprints and placed it on their heads and touched their hearts and eyes with it feeling as if they were seeing and embracing their brother Shri Ram and His hand was over their heads blessing them. This indescribable and highly intense emotional state of Bharat made all the birds and animal as well as all the stationery plants around Bharat fall in to a similar state, the effect of Bharat’s condition did not leave any one with Prana unaffected.

(Bharat demonstrated that for a true Bhakta anything touched by the Lord or the vicinity of the Lord should have an effect like the Lord’s presence itself. The real devotion is when ones mind and heart becomes subtle and soft and picks up signals and feelings about Lord intensively and instantly.)

An strange effect of this was that the friend of Bharat forgot which way to lead Bharat on and the gods came forward with help at this stage, they indicated the easiest and rightest path by showering flowers from above.

(Nishad Guha displayed his own purity of heart when he got in to same mould as that of Bharat where the worldly thoughts are annihilated and what remains is thoughts about only the Lord but the gods here become helpers themselves and way to Lord is then never missed.)

The ascetics, seekers and realized all became love drenched and praised the natural and innate soft feelings of them (Bharat, Shatrughan and Guha) and said if the world had not seen the extent of sentiment of love of Bharat for the Lord who could say that he could turn the living in to forgetting self or becoming static and could stir the static because of transfer of the that emotion to them.

They saw it as if nectar in the form Bharat’s love was churned out by the most merciful Raghuveer Shri Ram by churning the ocean like depth of Bharat’s heart using Mandar mountain like separation pricking Bharat’s heart, all for the sake of gods and the saints who were present there and watching (it is only at the time of separation that the true love reflects in ones heart; Bharat had ample of it).

(Bharat’s appearance on the scene convinced the people on way to realizing the God that real devotees of the Lord have intense power of influencing all alike, they could witness this happening right before their eyes.)
