We covered up to Doha 244 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that when merciful Lord Shri Ram looked at the people of Ayodhya after meeting Guru Vashishttha he understood that they all were very distressed and therefore He along with Lakshman met them all in matter of minutes and mitigated their misery; it should not be thought unusual for Him, he dwells in hearts of people like reflection of sun appearing in many pots of water simultaneously (being the Supreme God). Citizens also met Kevat, the friend of Shri Ram, and felt lucky for it. Shri Ram then looked at the mothers and found them pulled down by intense grief. Shri Ram first met Kaikeyi and consoled her saying that what ever happened was bound to happen under scheme of thing of Brahma; He then met the other mothers and put their anxieties also to rest and said that none should be blamed for what happened is due to time, providence and will of the creator and above all the world is said to be under the God not the humans.

Shri Ram and Lakshman then paid respects at the feet of Gurumata (wife of Guru Vishwamitra) and of other ladies from Vipra households who had come along with her. They did it with as much respect that they would do in case while honoring Ganga and Gauri Parvati. All those respectful ladies blessed them in return, in their soft and pleasing voices.

Thereafter Shri Ram grabbed feet of mother Sumitra and was taken in arms by her in a manner like someone poor would grab wealth when such chance comes. Later both brothers fell down at feet of the mother Kaushlya while their bodies were charged with intense feeling of affection towards her and she too brought then close to bosom with overflowing love; the tears from her eyes representing her affection for them soaked them completely. It was an occasion when the sadness combined with pleasure of the moment was as difficult for a poet to describe as a dumb person can not describe the taste of something he enjoys.

Once Shri Ram along with younger brother finished meeting with the mothers, he submitted to the Guru to leave for His abode on the mount Chitrakoot and when Guru instructed, all citizens carefully crossed the stream assessing depth of water and stepping on firm ground across. Bharat, Lakshman and Shri Ram then exclusively took along the Brahimns, the ministers, the mothers and Guru towards the sacred ashram over the hill.

We have now covered up to Doha 245 of Ayodhya Kand.

When Guru Vashishttha and others reached the ashram, Sita came forwards and touched feet of Guru and received his blessing for all which held dear to her heart; then Sita met the Gurumata and other respectable ladies in a manner that showed her love for them. Sita paid her respect at everyone’s feet among the elders and listened to words that blessed her, which also pleased her heart.

It was only when Sita, tender and young one, looked at mothers she got startled and dismayed and closed her eyes; she thought what a bad turn had been planned by God for them, they looked prey in hands of a hunter in the wild like female doves (Sita till now had had no occasion to see any of the ladies, in her young age, who had lost their husband and who looked so very different from what they used to look earlier). The mothers too felt immensely distressed after looking at her (Sita, a princess and a member of royal household, attired simply also presented a sight that made their hearts cringe) and they thought every thing that is destined has only to be borne. Regaining composure Janaksuta (daughter of King Janak) Sita with Her dark blue lotus like eyes which were now full of tears went ahead and met all Her mothers-in-law. At this occasion the whole place looked very pathetic (Sita and the mothers were more concerned and worried for the other than for themselves).

Sita time and again touched feet of them all with great affection while meeting with them, who blessed Her from bottom of their hearts out of their love for Her to ever remain Saubhagyavati (as a fortunate one whose husband lives with sound health till her own end).
