We covered up to Doha 254 in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Muni Vashishttha told the assembled people and Bharat that Shri Ram besides being really the king in our eyes, happens to be the Supreme Lord and none is above Him, He is inclined only towards truth, keeps the honor of Vedas, His birth itself is for the benefit of society, He is always ready to follow the advice of Guru, father and the mother, His avatar is to finish demons and help gods, none knows the reality what constitutes the right policy, concern for people and about the journey that liberates and also what is in interest in worldly ways, better than Him. It is His power and will that works behind the authority of gods, Maya’s influence, the kings of the world, their combined influence and their success and the guidance enshrined in Vedas etc; this is only possible to understand when a deeper thought is given. In this light it is advisable for us too to carry out what He has in mind for our own benefit. Guru lastly said this only is his well considered opinion.

Guru continued and said, “It is also true that Shri Ram’s crowning is most desirable for all of us and that this only is the path that leads to our happiness and welfare. You all may ponder and suggest means which might work to make Shri Ram agree to return to Ayodhya (Muni Vashishttha here did not want to solely rely on his own opinion and made it a participative discussion, a right process that should be followed when matters concerning public at large are in question).”

All listened with due regard to the valuable advice of the great Muni which was laced with gist of policy, idea of the ultimate objective and simple selfish interest of people in having Shri Ram as their king. None however could come up with an answer to what Muni asked them and became dumb like (it was too important and grave matter for them to say some thing and this is how people should leave the most important matters to be dealt by the wisest and by the experienced in their midst). Bharat now bowed down first and folded his hands (showing expected humility at such occasions) and said, “There have been many kings in the sun dynasty who were great individually and also greater than some others. It is also a fact that one’s birth is only on account of his own mother and father without whom it is not possible to be born but at the same time everyone comes on earth with host of Karmas, good and bad, as determined by the creator which he has done in past lives. But you (as Guru) have been the one whose blessings and guidance have been able to make many kings see fruition of their wishes and enjoy their entire welfare (as King Dashrath had four sons when Guru suggested the way), O my Master, you have shown the prowess that reversed the design of even the Brahma, I know that what you take up on your self to accomplish none can come in way (being rich in your Tapa and knowledge that gives you a high status and makes you a Guru with immense potential).

“In this light, if you must ask me for devising a means to resolve the problem at hand, it is nothing but my misfortune (Bharat here saw himself devoid of any status as prince but only as a disciple who has just the Guru to look up to when the times are puzzling).”

Listening to the endearing words of Bharat, Guru also had a surge of affection for him in his heart.

We have now covered up to Doha 255 of Ayodhya Kand.

Bhavani Shankar ki Jai!
