We covered up to Doha 255 in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Muni Vashishtth while addressing the people of Ayodhya and Bharat said that Shri Ram’s coronation was to the liking of all and in interest of all too but moot point was whether Shri Ram would like to return hence let us all find a way. All appreciated what Muni said as it covered benefits of both worlds but failed to think of any means. At this point Bharat told Muni respectfully that there had been many great kings among his ancestors and that though parents are responsible yet all get born with their own past Karmas determining course of their lives and that Muni was always the one to ensure provision of what those great kings lacked or wished by blessing them and guiding them. Bharat further said that he was really unfortunate if when its difficult to determine the way ahead Muni had asked them all to help themselves; these nice words of Bharat generated tender feelings for him in heart of Muni.

Muni Vashishttha then replied to Bharat saying. “Son, you have said what is valid but for those who think, want or act against the will of Shri Ram never ever have any accomplishment, even in a dream. However, I can only hesitatingly say this that the wise settle for half when all is slipping out of hands, so if you with brother Shatrughan agree to go in to jungle, may be Lakshman, Sita and Shri Ram return.”

(Muni implied here that the king might have sent Shri Ram to forest to have some unfinished task of restoring order and making the Munis stop fearing the attacks of demons which could well be carried out by the other two brothers. The king had not given anybody any inkling to what had transpired between his wife Kaikeyi and himself, which was alright. It was also a fact that the demons were still active and therefore Dashrath might have thought it proper make forest peaceful before Shri Ram becoming the king of Ayodhya because it might not have been possible for him to discharge that duty after taking reigns of Ayodhya as king, this obligation King Dashrath had himself not been able to fulfil. So this absurd sounding advice had logical basis).

When brothers, Bharat and Shatrughan, listened to Muni speak like this they became very happy and their whole body became thrilled. Happy within and with their body aglow, they felt like their father was alive again and Shri Ram had become king. For the people it was a big gain against a little loss but the queens began to cry as for them it was the same thing i e the gain was as much as the loss (for the mothers each son is as dear as the other, a natural feeling).

Bharat declared right then, “This considered advice of Muni of if followed would be most fruitful. I am ready to live for the entire life in the jungle. Nothing else is more dear to my heart and according to my choice.

“Shri Ram and Sita know all that is in our hearts and you as Guru are also aware of all that is there to know.”

We have now covered up to Doha 256 of Ayodhya Kand.
