We covered up to Doha 257 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Muni and the rest of people listened to Bharat and observed his intense love for Shri Ram and were speechless as a result. The intellect of even the Muni failed to fathom extent of pristine glory of Bharat and he now liked Bharat all the more and proceeded to Shri Ram’s place along with all. Shri Ram paid respect to Muni and offered him the seat of honor while rest of people also settled themselves as per Muni’s direction. Muni then keeping in mind the occasion, the place and the need of the hour thoughtfully said, “Listen O Shri Ram, You are all-knowledgeable and intelligent, you know the right course needed to discharge the Dharmic obligations, you are very virtuous and thoroughly learned; besides you are present in everyone’s heart (as the Lord and also as the prince of Ayodhya) and therefore you are aware of what lies in each one’s heart hence find a means to take care of wishes of people, your mothers and of Bharat.”

Muni further said, “the people in distress can hardly speak anything that is backed by thorough thinking behind it (because of disturbed mental state) and those who gamble bet only with confidence that their side would win (Muni meant while such speculation has no effect on outcome but people had been sure of it).”

Shri Ram pondered over what Muni had said and then gave vent to His own thought saying, “O Master, you only have the key that might open the deadlock, everyone’s welfare in enshrined in toeing the line that you would suggest. Your command should be first carried out with pleasure and only later discussed or appreciated. On my part and as first one to do it, I am ready to carry out your injunction and instruction giving it highest honor. Later all others would only be pleased to follow your advice, O Master, and prove to be obedient servants of you. Muni then answered Shri Ram saying, “Ram, what you pronounced is only true, but you have not kept in mind the affection of Bharat towards you. I would tell you over and over again that my wisdom has become prisoner of Bharat’s Bhakti towards You.  In my opinion You must do all that conforms to Bharat’s liking and I can assure You that even Lord Shiv will confirm this as the valid and beneficial thing to do.”

(Here Muni indicated that he was well aware what was in mind of Shri Ram, the Lord, and that it was only his duty to endorse the same. Being a realized Muni he had the strength of character to speak accordingly whatever be his own personal choice. He however also wished to remind Shri Ram that a Bhakta like Bharat is much more to Shri Ram and his wish can bend Lord’s own opinion and that this was only as per the declaration of the Lord Himself).

Lastly Muni Vashishttha besought Shri Ram saying, “You must listen to Bharat’s submission giving maximum attention and then only decide to do something; it may however take in to account the opinion of the saints and of the majority of people, it may be well be in line with policy of the state as also may reflect the essence of Vedas.”

(Muni was sure that the Lord of the Universe had the capacity to come out with a solution that would meet approval of all and will maintain the sanctity of Vedas and honor of the saints.)

We have now covered up to Doha 258 of Ayodhya Kand.
