We have now covered up to Doha 265 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that when Shri Ram announced that He was going to do as per Bharat’s choice, the gods and their head, Indra, became concerned that their desired objective might be missed and upon discussing the matter between themselves they concluded that Shri Ram only had regard for His Bhaktas who engage in selfless service unto Him and to society. They however remembered that Prahlad as Bhakta had the God assume the form of Narsimha (half lion and half human) to kill demon Hiranyakshipu for their relief but only after a long wait. Having no other alternative they decided to depend on grace of Bharat who had the key to resolution of their problem because Bharat had become confidant of Shri Ram by dint of his untiring service and selflessness. This was endorsed even by Guru Vrihaspati who told them that all kind of welfare and blissful living in this world is rooted in having attachment to feet of a Bhakta like Bharat.

Guru Vrihaspati told gods further, “the service rendered to servant and devotee of Shri Ram who is Lord of Sita (the inseparable Mayic power of His) is like that lovable Kaamdhenu, the divine cow, that grants all wishes. If your heart is set on being devoted to Bharat then you must get over all the worries as providentially you now have good times ahead. Indra, you the lord of gods, must notice the level of influence that Bharat has over Shri Ram whom he has pleased by his natural simplicity. You, the gods, may now lay at rest your disturbing thoughts because there is nothing now to fear for. Bharat is like shadow of Shri Ram Himself, he will never ask for anything that’s not in agreement with the will of Shri Ram, the Lord of Universe.”

Shri Ram, the Lord, who knows what goes on in everybody’s heart felt slightly bothered and burdened after He became aware of veritable views of the Guru of the gods in response to the initial agitation of gods and final resolve (because the Lord thought that He has committed to do what Bharat, his Bhakta, likes and now the gods have moved in the shelter of His Bhakta so have now become all the more deserving of His favor).

Bharat also now found himself under greater pressure of responsibility after his Lord and Master committed to do what he wanted and therefore began to weigh the options with himself and the many possible outcomes. Ultimately he came to a final conclusion and settled his mind; he saw that most desirable and most beneficial course open to him is to give in to the will of Lord Shri Ram. He surmised that Shri Ram was ready to forget his vow and keep honor of my commitment, in this way he has displayed unmatched abundance of love and affection towards me; Lord of Bhagwati Sita has favored me in every way and showered limitless graces on me. It was now time to speak for Bharat and he prepared to express himself.

We have now covered up to Doha 266 of Ayodhya kand.
