We covered up to Doha 266 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Guru Vrihaspati told the gods that the whole welfare and benevolence lied in serving the Lord of Sita and that it was just right that the gods had decided to seek shelter of Bharat and thereby ensured accomplishment of their desired goal; it was apparent that Bharat had won the heart of Shri Ram and therefore there was no reason to nurse doubts as Bharat happened to be alter ego alter ego of Shri Ram. Shri Ram as Lord knower of everything became aware of the valid views of preceptor of gods and of the concern of the gods hence found himself in a fix because of His commitment towards Bharat and the need of gods. Bharat also thought that he had all burden to determine the future course hence seriously weighed various options and finally decided that it was best to let the will of his Lord Shri Ram prevail as that only was in his favor. He thought that Shri Ram had preferred to support his own view and to let go of His own vow and that way had demonstrated His immense love for himself and had blessed him too in full measure. Now folding his lotus hands Bharat prepared to humbly speak to his master.

Bharat told Shri Ram, “O Master, what is there for me to say or want to listen, You are an ocean of mercy and know all that is in every ones’ heart. My whole satisfaction is that our Guru is pleased and You, my master, are favorably inclined towards me. This has set at rest all those imagined worrisome thoughts that were pricking my mind.

“I have been fearing for something that had no basis, how can the sun be blamed if someone loses the sense of direction. It is just the case of my being unfortunate that mother took a wicked turn, its all result of the creator becoming adverse and the cycle of time turning against me; while all these factors have ruthlessly contributed in the conspiratorial design that I am suffering from but You, as the savior of those who seek Your shelter, have kept Your promise.

“It is not a new custom adopted by You. The Vedas speak of it and the people at large know it only too well as Your permanent practice hence is its nothing secret. Entire world might go against someone, You alone will still be there to help and protect him. Who else can be said to have done real good of anyone other than You. O Lord, Your nature is similar to that of the celestial tree which favors none nor is against anyone, its known to grant wishes to who ever comes asking.

“The celestial tree, who ever comes to know it and reaches under its shade gets relief and his troubles get subsided, so is the case when some one comes near to You after developing an understanding about You. Like the celestial tree grants all wishes who ever asks it without any other consideration, so is the case with You, You also give everything asked for when someone faithfully prays You, without assessing his worth or checking his qualities.”

We have now covered up to Doha 267 of Ayodhya Kand.
