We covered up to Doha 267 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manaso of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that Bharat gave his message to Shri Ram humbly saying, “O Master, there is nothing much to say for me or for others now, You well know of everyones’ heartfelt desires and are very considerate. When Guru and Master both are agreeable, the disturbing thought have also gone. I feared unnecessarily; mother’s vile acts, my misfortune, adversity and bad times, all got together to attack me but you as savior have stood by me and kept your word (as protector of Bhaktas). This is however nothing new or secret because all know it and Vedas mention it. When world goes against, You are the only one to ensure welfare; and there is none else who in real terms can ensure good other than You. Your nature itself is such that who ever comes near You gets relief and loses anxiety instantly and those who pray to You for anything with unwavering faith get it for which You never put conditions or chose to favor only a select few.”
Bharat further told Shri Ram, “Finding that my Lord and my Guru have love and affection for me in every possible way, I have doubtlessly forgotten any kind of remorse. O Merciful One, do only that which would be in interest of people and ensure their welfare while it should not create any kind of apprehension in Your heart or leave scope for misgivings.
“A servant, who leaves his master in a tight spot only to serve his own end, surely possesses demeaning mentality; while in fact a servant’s real interest and purpose lies in serving the lord and therefore he should not have any kind of greed or expect any pleasures for himself while serving him.
“It is definitely so that all of us would be immensely rewarded if You,the Master, return to Ayodhya; it is nonetheless far more desirable for us to carry out Your instructions and obey Your orders, applying even a countless logic, this only will be the right conclusion.
“Submitting to Your will covers the essence of all the material well being as well as of ultimate goal; this is what is to be gained by noble deeds and this is what is most important feature of having the good fortune (i e any act that goes against the will of the Lord brings miseries, leaves no tangible or intangible benefits in hand, spoils life here and life after).
Bharat now prayed before the Lord (because he knew that while commitment should be to act according to will of the Lord, it should never deter one from praying for and making known his own heartfelt wishes), “O the Provider, kindly listen to my prayer and later do whatever You think is right and just. I have brought all that is needed to perform the ceremony of accession to throne and have come with competent people to do it; just let us make the best use of the same, if You kindly approve of it.
“And if it is necessary as per the wish of our father (that his sons go to jungle and establish order there) than I will go with younger brother and You will take charge as master and guide of the people of Ayodhya.
“If however You think that it is only Your primary responsibility then permit me, O Master, to come with You and let the two younger brothers return back.”
(The message for us here is that though we must not suppress any feeling while praying to the Lord yet we must remain flexible and open to yield to the will of the Lord as soon as it is known and known it will be if we remain attuned to catch it, with a simple and uncomplicated heart.)
We have now covered up to Doha 268 of Ayodhya Kand.
