भरत बचन सुचि सुनि सुर हरषे। साधु सराहि सुमन सुर बरषे।।
असमंजस बस अवध नेवासी। प्रमुदित मन तापस बनबासी।।
चुपहिं रहे रघुनाथ सँकोची। प्रभु गति देखि सभा सब सोची।।
जनक दूत तेहि अवसर आए। मुनि बसिष्ठँ सुनि बेगि बोलाए।।
करि प्रनाम तिन्ह रामु निहारे। बेषु देखि भए निपट दुखारे।।
दूतन्ह मुनिबर बूझी बाता। कहहु बिदेह भूप कुसलाता।।
सुनि सकुचाइ नाइ महि माथा। बोले चर बर जोरें हाथा।।
बूझब राउर सादर साईं। कुसल हेतु सो भयउ गोसाईं।।
दो0-नाहि त कोसल नाथ कें साथ कुसल गइ नाथ।
मिथिला अवध बिसेष तें जगु सब भयउ अनाथ।।270।।

Wr covered up to Doha 270 of Ayodhya Kand in Rmacharit Manas of Tulsidas in the lat post and learned that Bharat declared his total submission to Lord’s will as it would be in best interest of all but this upset the people of Ayodhya on one hand and pleased the gods and the Sadhus and forest dwellers on the other hand. Shri Ram found Himself a little puzzled and He remained quiet which made whole assembly of people somewhat skeptical. At about the same time the messengers of King Janak reached there and were summoned by Muni; the messengers offered their respects to Muni and when they looked at Shri Ram attired in garb of Munis they felt very saddened. Muni inquired of the welfare of the messengers as well as of Muni which the messengers found difficult to answer at first but later told him that Muni’s asking with concern itself was now reason for their good otherwise with passing away of King Dashrath, Mithila and Awadh were now masterless along with rest of the world.

कोसलपति गति सुनि जनकौरा। भे सब लोक सोक बस बौरा।।
जेहिं देखे तेहि समय बिदेहू। नामु सत्य अस लाग न केहू।।
रानि कुचालि सुनत नरपालहि। सूझ न कछु जस मनि बिनु ब्यालहि।।
भरत राज रघुबर बनबासू। भा मिथिलेसहि हृदयँ हराँसू।।
नृप बूझे बुध सचिव समाजू। कहहु बिचारि उचित का आजू।।
समुझि अवध असमंजस दोऊ। चलिअ कि रहिअ न कह कछु कोऊ।।
नृपहि धीर धरि हृदयँ बिचारी। पठए अवध चतुर चर चारी।।
बूझि भरत सति भाउ कुभाऊ। आएहु बेगि न होइ लखाऊ।।
दो0-गए अवध चर भरत गति बूझि देखि करतूति।
चले चित्रकूटहि भरतु चार चले तेरहूति।।271।।

The messengers further said, “the news of demise of King of Ayodhya and particularly the reason of his passing away had left the entire population of Janakpur almost mad due to intense grief. King Janak, (also known as Videh literally meaning who had risen above body centeric perceptions and thoughts; Janak had known the reality of world hence never grieved over the happenings in the mundane world) had also been greatly distressed and whoever happened to look at his condition now thought that his being called Videh wasn’t any more justified. The one who carried responsibility of all his subjects was now like a snake who had lost its Mani i e was totally without any vision and was unable to assess the situation after learning of the mischievous ways of  Queen Kaikeyi. The decision to anoint Bharat as king while plotting to send the great Raghu Shri Ram in to jungle had made the king of Mithila totally disheartened.

“Our king called his ministers and other men of wisdom to seek their opinion regarding what would be right further action in these circumstances. Weighing the dire state of affairs back in Ayodhya they could not say either it was right to leave for Ayodhya or to stay back (as they couldn’t decide without knowing if there was any power struggle going on there between brothers or not). Keeping patience the king arrived at a decision after reflecting himself over the matter and sent four of his expert political agents secretly to Ayodhya with instructions to find facts whether Bharat had good or bad intentions and approach, keep their identity undisclosed and return back promptly.

“These four men reached Awadh and learned of Bharat’s inclination and practically saw what Bharat was up to. As soon as Bharat left for Chitrakoot, the four men returned to Tirhut i e Mithila.”

(We see here that King Janak due to his dispassion could still see what was right thing to do according to various considerations related to state and his personal stake in the matter which his ministers and other wise people could not decide. Those who rise above self develop a natural sense of duty and propriety.)

We have now covered up to Doha 271 of Ayodhya Kand.
