We covered up to Doha 272 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that the messengers of King Janak lastly told Muni Vashishttha that when the undercover agents of the Janakpuri gave their report of favorable disposition of Bharat, his total devotion for Shri Ram and his plan to go to Chitrakoot, King Janak, his Guru and the rest felt relieved but also depressed due to emotions after listening about affairs in Ayodhya. They further told, “King Janak then asked his warriors and watchmen to take care of security of the town and ordered for preparations for leaving for Chitrakoot himself along with other close people; at an auspicious hour short while afterwards he commenced journey and reached Prayag the very next morning without halting en route and bathed at the holy confluence of rivers. Before crossing Yamuna Janak Maharaj sent us as an advance party to meet you.” With these words the messengers bowed down and expected further instructions of Muni who then asked them to leave and gave them support of a few local people to escort Janak’s party. This development enthused and thrilled the people of Ayodhya but this made Shri Ram slightly worrisome and concerned. The chief of gods also became skeptical about the turn of events now.

Kaikeyi who had herself been so evil was now suffering within for her role in recent past and felt very ashamed, the news of arrival of King Janak made her think poorly of herself all the more; she had nobody to speak to about her feelings and she had none to blame for what had happened. On the other hand the men and women of Ayodhya felt cheerful at the possibility of their living with Shri Ram for a longer period now. The day passed without much else happening and in the morning after observing the routine of bathing etc, people did Puja of their preferred deities like Lord Ganesh, Mother parvati, Lord Shiv and of Tamari (the dispeller of darkness i e Sun-god). Then they paid respect at feet of Lord Vishu (the provider) who is the consort of Rama (i e Laxmi, the goddess of riches), the men by joining the palms of their hands and the women by spreading the ends of their Saris and prayed saying, “May Shri Ram become the king and Janaki Sita become the queen of Ayodhya making it the capital where the limit of Ananada, the merrier times, is touched, O Lord, it may then see every community settle down in comfort and then Shri Ram may declare Bharat to be the crown prince, in this manner kindly sprinkle the nectar of such fortunate happenings over all of us to enjoy our times on earth which is otherwise not possible (this reflected their conviction and faith that their beloved Shri Ram as king could only provide them the best of times in the world).”

Then they together wished for their lives to end in Ayodhya when Raja Ram happened to be king still and ruled over them with help the Guru, the brothers and the able ministers through out the period, ever unbroken.

We have now covered up to Doha 273 of Ayodhya Kand.
