We covered up to Doha 296 of Ayodhya Kand in Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that chief of gods applied his own trick after being spurned by Goddess Saraswati but made out that Bharat held the key to whether outcome will be favorable or unfavorable. Janak and others reached near Shri Ram and the family Guru made Shri Ram aware of what had been the subject of discussion earlier and of Bharat’s considered views, and added that all were ready to carry out as per the wishes of Shri Ram. Shri Ram then politely told Muni that any final words coming from His own mouth would not be proper in presence of His Guru and King Janak and declared that He was ready to do whatever is the royal command and is to the liking of Guru. Such commitment by Shri Ram made everyone reluctant to respond and they all looked up to Bharat for breaking the impasse.

Bharat also observed that the whole assembly of people there had become reserved and they were unable to speak out their views but being brother of Shri Ram Bharat was able to keep perfect level of patience at this critical hour (because his life itself depended on what decision Lord Shri Ram was going to take). Thinking that at this moment the overflow of love has to be tamed in the same way as Muni Agastya had once tamed the rising Vindhya Mountain Range (which intended to rise high to obstruct the sun’s path…detailed story of this finds mention in epic of Mahabharat). Here Bharat’s astute and benign intellect came forward to playfully  rescue the pure and virtuous temperament of the people from under the grip of grief which had clouded it, like the Lord’s avatar as boar had once brought back the earth from clutches of demon Harinyaksha (this story has been detailed in Shrimad Bhagwat Poran).

Bowing down before all with hands folded Bharat addressed Shri Ram, King Janak, Guru Vashoshtth and the Sadhus (saintly people) and submitted, “kindly excuse me for I am going to utter some harsh words from my tender mouth that is like mouth of an infirm child.” Taking a pause Bharat invoked graceful Goddess Saraswati in his heart and she obliged him by descending from his mind to his lotus like lips. The intellect of Bharat had pool of pure, discreet and righteous wisdom which respected sound policy and therefore was like Hansa (a bird which can separate milk from a mixture of water and milk and drink it) i e Bharat had ample capacity to see distinctively the right and wrong in any matter.

Seeing the whole matter, with his eyes endowed with power of discretion, which had made the affection oriented people very confused and weak in thinking, Bharat once again did Pranam to all and began to speak while remembering Bhagwati Sita and Lord of Raghus Shri Ram.

Bharat said, “O Lord, You only are my father, mother, well-wisher, Guru and the master, You are to be worshiped and You only ensure ones’ ultimate benefit and You only are that one should see as ultimate refuge, You know what is in everyone’s heart, You are most uncomplicated, a good patron and guide, You are most polite towards all, You take care of those who bow down before You, You know every thing and have keen observation, You are strong and help those who seek refuge in You, You appreciate others’ virtues and if someone comes in Your contact You are able to enable him to drop bad tendencies and make him sinless. My Master, You as Supreme Lord are the only one without a second and none equals You and as for me, I am uniquely of my type (in terms of being the cause of troubles). Just see, Lord, I have come here disregarding the words of father out of my own confusion and stupor and have brought here entire populace of Ayodhya. In the entire world, the good and bad people whether highly placed or low in status, immortal after drinking nectar or heading towards death after consuming poison, none can do otherwise than what’s Your will. In this manner I have acted very stubbornly and still You, My Lord, have taken it to be something done to serve You out of Your love for me.

“You gracefulness and goodness has ensured what’s in my interest and favor, my faults are now being seen as my ornamental decorations and my name and fame has spread all over.”

(Bharat gave glimpse in to the virtues of Supreme Lord which Bharat had seen Shri Ram displaying and practically demonstrating as an avatar in human form since childhood, for him the distinction between the Supreme lord and Shri Ram had completely disappeared. This is how the Bharat like devotees see reality and know that Lord in form and abstract Lord  are very same and reversely the ones like King Janak who contemplate on the abstract and formless Lord also reach the same conclusion when faced with the Lord in form. Who ever appreciates the virtues of the Lord naturally becomes humble and honest.)

We have now covered up to Doha 298 of Ayodhya Kand.

Bhavani Shankar Ki Jai!
