We covered up to Doha 304 in Ayodhya Kand of Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas in the last post and learned that all those who listened to Bharat speaking his heart out were left almost speechless, Bharat’s devotion was unparalleled. Tulsi too acknowledged his own inadequacy in describing the glories of Bharat which according to him even the available authentic religious texts could not explain rightly. Who ever turned his attention to virtues of Bharat invariably became a devotee of Shri Ram. Shri Ram, the upholder of Dharma, took note of people’s condition and came forward and spoke keeping in mind the delicacy of time and place in most pleasing and agreeable manner telling Bharat that he was on the side of Dharma being well aware of the Shastras, the customs and that he had a loving heart and that none could claim to have as much integrity as Bharat had and that in front of the elders it was not right for Him to keep telling much about the qualities of His younger brother particularly at such critical time.

Shri Ram further told Bharat, “O My Younger Brother, you are all aware of the ways of the Sun family that we belong to and also know that out father well known to be a most profound person to follow the path of truth and also for his love (for me and my brothers), and how much he cared for his good name. You also understand the plight of people and the gravity of time and that we have to keep prestige of our seniors and elders. You also know the minds of those who are neutral, favorable and inimical to our cause and commoners’ interests. Who did what is also before you, you also know what is our, your and mine, ultimate benefit and what is our Dharma (call of duty) at this very moment. I am solely dependent on you but still would like to tell you some thing keeping in mind the occasion.

“O Brother, in absence of our beloved father, it is the grace of the our Gurus and of family of our Kulguru Vashishttha that has taken care of everything for us and has steered clear our family out of such a difficult pass. If it had not for them, the people, our kith and kin and we brothers would have badly suffered and might have perished (here the Lord placed high value, in the life of a family, on the Guru as guide and protector when the difficult times come, this way he becomes most honorable person).

“Very simply it can be understood that it sun would set at a time it is not supposed to, it will be to the detriment of all, in the same way our father, the shining star in sun family left this world due to machinations applied by the creator and therefore all have to suffer on that account but still the lord of Mithila and our Guru saw to it that nothing untoward happens.

“I am sure that the affairs of state, honor of all and our commitments will be maintained as well as the protection of our land, protection of the city and its wealth and the protection of Dharma will be ensued, all by the influence of our revered Guru and in the end all will be well.”

(Shri Ram meant to convey to all that the family Guru of the royal family is not just a Guru of a certain family rather he is someone in whom all subjects of the state should have trust. Such a one remaining in charge at the critical times faced by the state and the ruling family, will ensure welfare of all. It is because the enlightened Guru will never serve his own petty interests but as an experienced person under whose guidance the ruler governed the state will steer the nation out of trouble.)

We have now covered up to Doha 305 of Ayodhya Kand.

Shri Ram continued and said, “Our welfare at home and my stay in jungles, including all in our society should enjoy protection as the grace of the Guru and as reward. To follow what mother, father, Guru or master advise, is the real support that Dharma stands on, even the Sheshnaag keep the earth resting on its gang by grace of them (i e such a tough task is performed by him by following the wishes of these respectable people).

“This is what you must do and let me do and thereby be the protector of the Sun-Family. This one practice provides the seeker all kinds of accomplishments, establishes their good name and makes them have good and propitious times, as is known to be the case with the stream after three rivers (Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati denoting Bhakti, Karma and Gyaan) join together on the earthly plains known as Prayag.

“With this line of thinking and by facing this greatly perilous time, you must make the family and the people comfortable and assured. Though all are ready to share my troubles and hardships and have done so yet for you it’s absolutely very trying times till the end of my exile. You are so tender in every way yet I am indicating such harsh prospects for you, I hope you don’t mind it because it is due to bad times that we are now presented with. At the difficult junctures only good brothers happily come forward to help, is it not that hands protect when attacked by sword of enemy.

“It is only right that a servant behaves in manner of legs, hands and eyes for the sake of whole body and the mouth does all the eating to provide each limb the strength it needs.”

Tulsi says that listening to what Shri Ram talked in explaining the ways of love and affection, the good and learned poet can only have appreciation and acclaim for it.

We have now covered up to Doha 306 of Ayodhya Kand.
